I need some help with my helmet hunt for my street bike.

Nope. It's an organization that does work to make your brain bucket safer.

With fourteen years of riding experience and twelve years of motocross racing on me I've learned i would never get on a bike without a helmet. Im 18 now, when i was 16 i was in a WORX series 125cc open hairscramble race three days after school got out for the summer. As me and a competitor were stuck dueling side by side on a narrow quad trail, suddenly the trail went from being a quad trail that works perfectly for a two lane dirtbike trail, into just a dirtbike trail only wide enough for one rider. Neither of us lifted and we were evenly matched. when we got to the bottleneck in the trail we clashed bikes together. i bounced off him to the right side of the trail and he bounced off of me to the left. I woke up in a hospital ten weeks later. my dad showed me the helmet i was wearing. I fell face first into a tree at around 40mph, and my face was the only thing that hit the tree. The full face of the helmet was missing. literaly non-existant. I thought the paramedics had cut it off of me but they told me it was shattered by the impact. I had a broken jaw, a tube in my throat, a shattered nose ( the bridge had to be cut out and was replaced with a prosthetic one) and a coma.
What im trying to say is everyone need to wear a helmet, streetbike, dirtbike, cruiser, even a gay ass moped. Dont ride without one, there is no doubt in my mind that in the same wreck i had without a helmet i wouldve been paralyzed, thats if i was lucky, but most likely i would have been killed. Please do not look at a helmet law as an obligation, think of it more as common sense. With out the obligation to wear a helmet you could easily be obligated to rest in a real nice wooden box for eternity. Think before you ride and dont ride over your head.

I know there are times where a helmet has made the difference both way. Yes, it is true. I can give you very specific examples where the helmet contributed or caused the fatality. I am not saying that is always the case, I am just saying like seat belts they can be a double edged sword. But I do not want to turn this into a helmet debate. Unless you all are going to debate the best choice by brand or price. I am looking for advice on which helemt to get that should be enough.

Okay: Buy the best helmet you can afford. Buy one that fits your head well. Look for one that meets or exceeds the new Snell M2010 standard for motorcycle helmets.

Well, the great state of Georgia requires motorcycle riders to wear a damn helmet. That is the only thing I miss about living in Florida. I still had my right to chose for myself. Oh well, this is where we live for the moment so if I want to ride I have to comply. I am getting my bike back on the road and I need some help locating a helmet I can half way tolerate. I know more about motocross style helmets than anything. So I am starting from scratch with street bike stuff. I would like an open face helmet that does not look totally retarded. I saw one on a Hot Rod TV show a while back that I liked but I cannot remember what it was called. Are there any out there that can be open and closed faced? I am thinking for the winter time I would like a closed face that can be removed when it warms up. Shoot me some links and shower me with your knowledge. I need this figured out quick, fast, and in a hurry.

Well, if you like beer then this Bud's for you!!!! I made this just for you after seeing that guy carrying that flag in your avatar. Enjoy!!!

Check out www.rideicon.com. Oh an by the way, we prefer the term sport bike. :thefinger:

Thanks for the link. I guess I will change my vocabulary after I have an R1 in my garage.

BOOOOOO! Ride red or go home in my book. Do not get me wrong Yamaha makes a really nice bike but you cannot beat the comfort and dependability of a CBR hands down.

All my ATV's and bikes have always been Yammis. I just really like the looks and feel of an R1. I am not going to be racing it or going crazy with mods. Just want to ride it and enjoy a blast of power from time to time.

I lucked out. I just happen to find a good deal on Craigslist today for a new helmet. I even half way like it. So, now I just have to get the bike put back together and tagged here in GA and I am done.
