i need help with finding straight axle, 86 ranger 4x4

so if i pick up a junked 91-01 explorer would that have the front and rear im looking for?

In 95 they went to IFS in the front but those years and up have the rear axles you want. Pre 95 have the fronts you want but not the rears you want unless you want drum brakes but are still 31 spline.

Hmmm... I'll start hitting up the local pick n pull I think, cause disks would be nice

alriaght, well i picked up a 96 jeep grand cherokee today and its got the 8.25 inch rear end and a D30 front both with disk brakes, i got it for $550 so i can part the thing out for about that much once i take the axles and if im not happy with the D30 then no harm done i guess

So far my D30 has been nice to me. Hooking them up to a ranger is another thing, not as simple as the control arms for a D44. I have seen people use them under their ranger with the stock arms but fine tuning stock jeeps ares isnt something easy to do since your mount points have to be exact compaired to a set that are adjustable. I bought longarms for mine and havent looked back plus if I do go bigger on my front axle then all I have to do is weld mounts to it for my longarms and be good to go.

Now is the D30 a CAD axle or not (Central Axle Disconnect, more info on it in the tech library)?

As for the rear end, Jeep guys swap theirs out for the exploder 8.8 from their D35. The good thing is the D30, Jeep D35 rear share the same bolt pattern as the ranger axles so no need for a rim swap there.

Alright, thanks for the info, I don't think it's a CAD, I haven't quite torn Into it much yet (damn holidays.....) but I'm gonna use the jeep d35 till I come across a replacement, also the tranny from the jeep is brand new so I'm gonna be able to pay off the jeep by selling the tranny haha

Also I just realized that I said my rangers and 86 on the title but it's an 84 lol

So it has the 2.3 or the 2.8 under the hood? Not that it really matters, just like to see other 2.8 engines that are still alive.

its got a roarin 2.8 baby:thefinger: i got it boared out and all rebuilt by daves preformance in fresno CA, its hooked up to a C5 tranny and its got some sorta flowmaster cat-back exhaust that was on it wwhen i picked it up but boy sdoes it sound mean

Not dissing on the 2.8, thats what Im running now. Im not arfraid to take her to 6,000 rpm either. You can really fell when you have reached max HP though (4600 rpm) after that the acceleration really falls off and she doesnt have much more to give either. Im running a TK4 behind mine (origianl tranny and 3rd engine, first two were 2.3 liters).

yeah it is underpowered... i have a 302 that im planning on throwing into it in the future, also my SAS is going great, im getting the 4 link stuff worked out today

8 1/4 is not a d35. he said 30--8 1/4 combo initially...

Im just pointing out that Jeeps guys give up there current rear ends for the 8.8.

People will say that the 302 will destroy a D30 and it may but just all depends on if you are smarter then your right foot and a few other things. Im going to run my D30 until I have to replace it with another axle due to to much destruction to it and I have yet to go major on mine.

Im going to be going throug my whole truck next year, enigne swap, front axle being redone, etc..., before I start having some true fun in her.
