I Made a 2.5l Sound Like it's Screaming America

4.10’s are the best mod for performance that Ive found with a 2.3

Mine came with them stock. I'm putting 4.56 gears in when it's nice for a few days...

I guess I’m twisted, but I like the dual plug Lima 4s. I never had a 2.5 but the 2.3 worked well with 5spd, especially given the tall rear gear mine had.

A four banger in a small truck definitely needs a 4.10. Hell, I think my 2011 with the 4.0 SOHC should have 4.10 gears as a minimum.

I like my 2.3 duratec... it's not exactly peppy but gets good mileage and definitely moves better than the lima. :dunno:

I do have 4.10s and an auto with a shift kit though which help alot.
What kind of shift kit did you install ?
Grumpaw

Trans-Go but you need to disable the adaptive shift control to make it actually change the shift speed.

You did what with a tranny???

Honestly guys, it's like driving a beetle, or a go-cart. It's just pure clean fun with a 5 speed. It does get great mileage and it is slow. But so is the toyota 22re, and everyone loves that engine. On that note, I think I'd rather work on a 22re due to the dual spark engine bullshit they got going on here. But the cat delete and bigger muffler and bigger/shorter pipe....made a work of difference when driving it.

ive had (3) 2.3 lima’s, every one of them takes forever to warm up. I guess boring them out to be a 2.5 didnt help that. They are the only non-interference 4 cyl that I know of. the dual plug heads after ‘89 seem prone to cracking around the valve seats. ive wondered if the 2.5 feels any more powerful than the 2.3 it replaced. Ive drove a newer 2.3 (mazda engine) and wasn’t impressed, it was in a reg cab shortbed with a manual and 3.73s, my 94 2.3 longbed with cap & bigger tires felt alot more responsive.
I've actually considered putting a engine heater element in mine, what do you guys think?

I did that with mine. A block heater and an oil pan heater. Things warm up a lot quicker with them. I liked it so much every vehicle I've owned since has them.
