but my 94 4.0 5 speed wont break traction for me, i mean seriously break traction lol from like a dead stop, rev it to 4 grand dump the clutch and nothing, maybe i just suck lol im thinkin about doing a new motor in it, it has like no balls sometimes, on the highway (flat road) i can have the pedal to the floor and sometimes it bogs doesnt have any pick up.. time for a new motor? i started it one day and it blew a cap off of the intake manifold where the vacuum lines go, i know of a 95 4.0 motor complete with everything minus alternator should i go with that?

What gears are in the rear end? How tall are your tires?

The 4.0 is definitely NOT a gutless engine, so i'm thinking yours could use a good go over. I have one in my '97. thing is a tank. never complains under heavy load and i can break the tires loose in first gear w/o even doing a rev&dump.

my truck has 3.73s and i have some pretty worn bgf 31" a/t i have 167xxx miles on the truck too but from a dead stop it wont burn em but it will if i have the wheels turned, should i go sea foam? with new plugs and wires? what sensors should i check or replace i think the o2 sensors are bad but im not sure

Seems good to me!

If you NEED to burn up tires getcha a camero!
If it isn't missing and stuttering then the plugs/wires are Ok!
Same goes for te 02's.. If you are worried about it check the timing to make sure it is up to snuff.. Or look to a partially stopped-up exhaust pipe.
If it ain't broke already don't try to fix it!

its gotta be your clutch or something, my 4.0 has 300,000 on it, and nailing it from a dead stop with a beat up automatic to get into traffic and i'll smoke the tires for quite a long distance

lol no camaro for me it would have to be a fox body, and it does stutter and miss on the highway, i honestly think its the cats and o2 sensors because the plugs and wires are 4 months old, could i use a univeral high flow cat or would i need two of them?

haha nice man. if you have manual locking hubs and just want to do a nasty smokey burnout, keep your hubs unlocked and put it in 4 low, and you will have the low gearing without the front tires to spin, it will burn the tires off the truck, i would just be careful cuz if you get too aggressive with the skinny pedal, somethings gonna break

Did you check you air filter? check easy stuff first... put a dollar next to your tail pipe and if everything is working prop (like no hole in muffler, valves, exhaust not clogged) it should blow and suck the dollar in and out more out then in mine still does it with 165,000 on it. I have a 96 super and if i lost the weighted tonneau cover i can smoke um from a stop and i have a non rebuilt automatic and 3.08 gears!

my '96 4.0 has more than 222,000 miles on it, and with 3.08 gears and a 5spd....can be moving down the road at 20mph in 1st gear and stomp on it, and it'll roast em good for a bit before it grabs traction, lol.

Got a 97 w/ 31's and 3.73's and a limited slip rear end and automatic. I can lay twin trails on dry pavement without too much problems.

I haven't tried to just light em up for the hell of it, those tires are too expensive... but I have spun them by goosing the throttle a bit too much on occasion. I would imagine that I could smoke them.

but I am with Big Jim on this one, if you want to roast the tires, get a Camaro or Mustang.

"clean your cats" Or replace them. I had to make adjustments to my cats cuz they were clogging up and killing me on exhaust temps. causing the whole thing to run shitty. once I opened up the airflow then things smoothed out a bit.

My list of things to do on your truck would be:

-check air filter
-check spark plug gap
-replace fuel filter
-replace cat. converters (a single aftermarket hi-flow replacement is sufficient) and if you have the $$$ go to a full 2.5" exhaust

Seafoam wouldn't hurt, and neither would a good (Lucas is the brand I use) injector cleaner.
