yesterday in stlouis a posting for a ac/dc antique stick welder showed up, for 100$ not a bad deal if it is true, and as i am kinda in the market for a ac.\dc welder i call and go and check it out. i get there, and it is not only an antique but junk,

first i cannot test it, then the 2 slot for low range amps is busted (it is so old you move leads from one slot to the other to change amps) finally. i ask how do you switch from ac to dc and the guy said switch lead from ground with stinger. wtf that is just changing ac + and - making this a old ac buzz box.

i feel stupid because i almost bought it, but the realization hit that i had no where to put it because it was so big 2 ft wide 1 ft deep 4 ft tall..

it bugs me that some people waste your time miss describing stuff on craigslist that is all. i mean this happened when i was car shopping.

i once drove an hour and a half to pick up some mustang wheels... the guy told me via email that the tires were "in good shape, at least 50% tread left"

i get there, the tires are full of dry rot cracks... two are on the wear bars and two arent much better. wtf?

Thats sucks! Ebay is a much better place to shop for stuff I dispise Craigslist. That welder was not that big lol. I had two that measured 2 feet wide about 5 foot long and about 3 foot tall. They were a Lincoln sa-250's One had a Perkins 4cyl Diesel Kinda like what was in the Ranger Diesel. The other had a Ford Flathead. I love big machines lol.

Ebay is OK. I've gotten some steals on there, but I don't know how anyone can make any money with all of the fees involved. They'll shoot themselves in the foot at the rate they're going.

I can never find what I need on Craigslist..

I was just stating that comparing Ebay and Craigslist. I would rather deal with Ebay. Its safer and more of a selection.

I like Ebay too. Got my wheels for $240 for the lot brand new, plus shipping($80). Then found them at Schwabby's for $163 EACH. And I checked them out, theyre not stolen!!! lol. But stuff is still "mis-represented" on there too if you dont pay attention.

I dunno... I've had good luck with Craigslist... I bought an old Lincon AC-225 off there for a hundred bones not to long ago. Got to fire it up an test it right there too and even a hand loading it on the truck. According to the guy who had it, it's about 30 years old, but aside from being a lil dusty, you wouldn't know it was that old, it looks identical to the new ones.

I also picked up a lawn tractor, 18 hp twin cyl Craftsman. They said it needs a deck belt and a patch welded on the deck. I looked it over, they fired it up and gave me a chance to drive it around the yard some an test out the gears and a hand shoving it into the back of my Ranger (it's a bit of a squeeze to say the least to fit a bigger "garden" tractor with a 42" deck in the bed of a Ranger).

Heck, I even got hired for some side jobs by people through C/L. Turned out to be good payers and repeat customers.

I have had good luck with C/L I kinda like it more than Ebay. The prices seem more relistice than Ebay. plus I can go look at the Item in person before I pay the guy. Not like Ebay where you pay, then wait two-three weeks before the item to show up. and when it does it is a pos. but then ebay wont allow you to leave negitive feedback because it was out of there time schedule for feed back. I pretty much quite using Ebay all together. and I find almost all my ranger parts off CL. I guess living on the west cost where every teenage driver thinks they are a desert racer make for abundance of parts.

I have had good luck with Craigslist. I've stolen shit off there, turned it and doubled or tripled my money more than a few times. You have to check frequently though. The good deals go fast. I normally check three times a day. I will say though that I have had people incorrectly described items and yeah, I'm not happy when that happens. Especially when it involves a lot of time or fuel. It's not Craigslists' fault if someone incorrectly describes an item though.

i too have found many great deals on craigslist... but the dumb people still annoy me.

Anywhere that a sales article can be written by anybody will have it's share of uninformed sellers. It happens. But ya I like C/L as well because it is local and you can go see it before you buy it. My experience on there has been a good one as both a buyer and a seller.

I sold my Mustang on C/L. I ended up getting what I wanted for it, and the guy that bought it got the project car he was looking for. It turned out to be really easy, and I was satisfied. I haven't looked to buy anything off of there though, so I can't speak for the experience of that.

I check ebay here and there but I check c/l all the time. I do auto sidework through craigslist and even just got a part time job maintaining snowplow equipment + mr softee trucks in the summer off of it. Both have their advantages and disadvantages but yeah some people are trying to scam away on each. I got 3 money orders totaling $1500 for a truck I was selling for $500, took them to who sells those money orders and turns out they were cashed 5 months before I got them. Now most people put that they aren't shipping and its a cash in hand deal in their ads

Only accept the real thing, USPS money orders! Everyone knows what a USPS money order looks like, and they are just as good as cash. Much documentation online to be alert of fake MO's, USPS MO's are just as secure as cash....backed by the USPS.

I utterly hate money orders from anywhere else, and that is strange that you got money orders already cashed when there was no depositer sig, I have not been cheated yet.
