Hi
I brought 86 RANGER 2.9LT Super Cab manual transmission 4X4 home from the local junk yard on a trailer. It is said to have unspecified engine trouble. When I was trying to get it started it was trying to fire so I nursed it along with starting fluid tilll it could run by itself. Then I cleaned the spark plugs they were all carbon black and it ran pretty smooth. The gas tank is full of gas thats been in there about 6 years so it would sputter on that and try to quit, and the oil is about 1/2 quart over full and blacker than coal. I didnt notice how many miles are on it, I will look today.
Im gonna take all the rotten gas out and put in 2 gallons of premium gas with a bottle of injector cleaner. Then drain the oil down to the add mark and put a quart of tranny fluid and let the engine run for half an hour then change oil & filter.
The engine sounded good and the alternator works fine, its operating temp was rite where it should be.
The front brakes still work but all the other steel brake lines are busted, but thats no biggie to fix. The body is pretty good, there are rust holes at the fender wells not really big so thats not hard to fix.
Drivers window is busted out, so ill just put on another door that I have, figure thats easier than putting a window in. Back widow is busted out, I have one in another Ranger wreck I can put in.
The windshield has a big star at the bottom left like a big spider web, that dont bother me but the cops wont like it, I have a a better windshield I could put in, its cracked but it will pass. Ive put in windshields that have the old style rubber B4, but Ive never put in a modern one that only uses the black goop.
Im just gonna get it good enuff so I can get winter firewood supply on my north 40, then next summer I wanna take the bed off and clean up the under carriage and undercoat everything.
All my Ford trucks have "Joe" in their name, since this one is a 4x4 Im calling it Bazooka Joe.
