So I go to put the ring gear on my new carrier.

Won't fit.

Come to find out...

Some a-hole put a 8.8 rear end on it. Without disclosing it to me.

I was just going off the door code..(the rear end didn't have one).

So now the $65 I spent on the 7.5, the cover, and gasket, is now worthless.

Now we get more confused...

The Ford 7.5 had 28 spline axles.

The ford 8.8 had either 28 or 31 spline axles.

If one gets a Limited slip rear with 31 spline, can one just put the 28 spline side gears in and be golden?

IIRC the answer is no. There are other minor differences between the two versions of the axle that make swapping pretty much anything but the cover, ring & pinion, an drive-shaft flange not work.

Give me a few days and a zip code. I have a 28-spline 8.8 in my garage that I got as a set with a D35 I wanted. It is limited slip (or so I am told, I never opened it, but I trust the source) and all I really want off that axle are the gears. I'll sell you the carrier for shipping.

what gears are in it and what gears did you want in it? 8.8 is upgrade over 7.5, most people try to find one to swap with disc brakes. Good Luck though. Try sell/wanted ads to see if you can swap with someone.
