WTF, with autozone. Do you have a Advance/Discount in your area? I know that when I was having issues with my ICM, the tach on my cluster would randomly bounce around. I got a SPOUT code too. Replacing the ICM cleared that up.
You have a point on the heated up coils tho.
Personally, I think your best shot is getting those codes. I bet it would give you a solid starting point. Don't have a buddy that has one? FWIW, Autozone's website (when it works) advertises that they will pull your codes. Do you have a pep boys around?
