I have the Ranger up for sale now, and this is now set in stone. I bought a car today. Its a 2001 PT Cruiser, Black with a tan interior, Chrome rims, and tinted windows. It has the 2.5L and 5 speed. It has a cloth interior, with power windows, locks, mirrors, CD, A/C. The best thing is that its roomy inside, a whole lot more room then the Ranger. The only thing it needs is a windshield and 2 wiper blades. I'll pick the car up sometime next week, or as soon as I can get the money together.

Congrats. What made you pick this one instead of a turbo one?

The fact that the car comes with 2 sets of new tires (good brands, not cheap crap), and the only thing it needs is a windshield and wiper blades. The motor is dry, but you can see the dust that has settled on it, so you know it wasn't just washed off to make it look pretty, there is some old oil still there, but what is there, is nothing major, and nothing to worry about. Theres 151 000 highway KM on it, and the thing runs like a dream. It has all the power I need. That and I also got it for $5600. (Average price here for one in that shape and age is about $6000-$7000). This car has a lot more room then the Ranger, a buddy of mine was in the back seat when I had it out for a test drive, and he said "this thing has a unnerving amount of room back here". With the pep this thing has, (tonnes more then the Ranger, then again, 31"s with factory gears will do that), I didn't feel I needed any more power, and If I do feel the need, I can always supercharge it later on, lol.
 
not my first choice at all.. I work at a dodge dealer, and really you couldn't pay me to buy one. Good luck with it though, glad you enjoy it!

x2 and i dont work at a dodge dealer, but enjoy your choice, atleast ull get better gas mileage
 
Well, I picked the car up last night, and if all goes to plan, the Ranger is gone on Wednesday. I'll still pop by every so often after the Ranger is gone, theres a lot of good guys here, and a lot of good information. However, since I will be taking more highway trips, the Ranger sucked on the highway, and the PT has cruse control, and it ran smooth even at 140km/h.

One thing to keep in mind nowadays is that all Turbo cars must use PREMIUM fuel.

I am not aware of any turbo car that doesn't require premium to ward off detonation under boost.

A good friend of mine was all set to buy a Turbo Beetle until I pointed this out. Deal breaker.

If I'm buying a car to get better gas mileage, I don't want to offset any gains by spending an additional 30cents per gallon for fuel. :bawling:
 
only saving grace is the great head room and ergonomics.but like the rest say,they are disposable cars which don't hold their value well.i've seen a few fixable pt's totalled by the insurance because they are such a cheap car

My 1990 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo called for 90 octane, and never complained a bit about the 89 octane E10 I ran in it for 37k miles. $.10 cheaper than regular and got 27-29 mpg on the highway, or about 25 with me flogging it around town.
 
in a few miles you'll be wishin you got a Ford Economy Car, every dodge we have bought has been junk, our Caravan after 14000 miles has had more problems than my old ranger that had over 260000 miles you should have bought an escape with the 2.3 it has a marginal amount power and gets 28 MPG my dad loves his, he has gotten 30 MPG with his

I don't think I'd consider a PT Cruiser an economy car.

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/FEG/noframes/17118.shtml says it only gets 18 City and 24 Highway. Isn't that about the same as a 3.0L Ranger? I work with a guy who has one and he gets about 17 mpg with mostly city driving.

I wasn't looking for better economy, I was looking for more interior space and a better highway car. As for the repair aspect of it, and them being disposable, every car now-a-days are disposable. Also, true, Chrysler has a poor resale value, but that doesn't mean they are poor quality. My close family has only owned Chrysler's, we have had amazing luck with them all the way back to when my Dad bought his '73 Dart. We even managed to get over 300 000km out of a K-Car, if that wasn't a disposable car, I don't know what is. I had nearly 250 000km on my Caravelle when I sold it, and my Dakota had 276 000km on it when I sold it. I did want another Ranger (extended cab), but to get one in equivilant to what I got, I'd be looking at the $10 - 15000 range, and yes, I could go out and buy a new base model for $18k plus taxes. I've also hardly ever worked on them, and I hardly ever see them in the shop.
