On my 2003 XLT I have an OCCASIONAL slight tick when I turn my HVAC fan on. Sometimes it ticks, sometimes it doesn't. It doesn't matter if it is in AC mode or Heat mode.. It's very slight and eventually goes away. Is there an easy way to troubleshoot this? It kinda sounds like a leaf or something very light is in the fan. But since its been happening for months now, I would think a leaf would be disintegrated by now. How about a sticky bearing ? …. I don't know. I'm just guessing.

In my experience, it's usually a leaf and they do hang on for a surprisingly long time. Best way to check is to pull the fan and look.

Three bolts and the wiring connector. All in the engine bay on the passenger side. I see you have a V-6 like me. It's going to have some suck in the job.

Since I knew what it was, I did the same. I don’t have cruise control. So, it’s a little more open on that side than Rangers that have it. Part of the system sits right next to the fan and must be moved to get the fan out.

Thanks sgtsandman
So when you removed your fan, what did you find to be the problem on yours making the occasional clicking noise ?
I turned my fan on again today and no click (yet).
Yes, I do have Cruise Control so I'm not rushing into this til it gets bad.

It was a couple tree seeds. One of the smaller ones. Not exactly sure how they got in there but they did.
