2004 ranger edge w/49k on the clock- 4.0, auto , any tips? Also any info on the trans cable ( linkage) as it is sloppy-it also has a “killer” BOSS sound system w/sub that my son installed along with back up camera( great for hooking up trailer) and tinted the windows- next he is wrapping to break up the all white body-

If you mean the shift lever on the column is sloppy, that is caused by two bolts under the column that come loose over time. Very common problem.

The cable basically never needs to be replaced unless it breaks, there is a ton of room for adjustment on that on the transmission end, as well as adjustment to line up the needle mark on the instrument cluster under the dash by simply adjusting a little wheelie thing.

The procedure for adjusting the cable literally involves filling a sock with precisely 3 pounds of sockets and hanging it off the shift lever. Ford engineers really went all out coming up with that procedure...
