how to tell if my 1987 ranger was built before 10/87

I am doing a ton of work on my truck. While I have the motor, trans and transfer case out I am servicing my brakes. I am seeing that they have different front brake calipers depending on if my truck was built before or after 10/1987. How can I find this out?

Did you look at the door jam on the drivers side? Should say what month it was made. And a whole bunch of other crap.

Yup, door jamb. Other than that all you an do is infer based on the VIN. The last 6 digits (a letter and 5 number) are the production series and sequence number.

If you post them up we can probably compare them to other trucks with known build dates and take an educated guess as to where your truck falls.
