How to remove BREATHER tube from oil filler neck?

The intake tube end pulls out easily enough, but the other end has that boot where it mates to the oil filler neck... not sure whether to yank on the boot or the tube, and how hard... is there a quarter-turn trick involved? Doesn't seem to budge.

it should yank right off there. its a plastic tube inserted in a rubber boot, which slides over a plastic nipple on the valve cover end.

So I should yank on the boot, NOT the tube, eh?

I just want to make sure there's no... wicked sludge in there, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk... my bad... looking a little oily at the intake end.

Gotta get after the PCV too, but it's kinda buried.

a little oil in the intake from the crank breather is normal. excessive amounts usually indicate a blowby problem.

Blow-by... is there supposed to be a sponge or somesuch baffle element to prevent that? Might it have disintegrated on a '99?

the only way to prevent blow by is to have properly sealed piston rings.

but no, there is no filter on the crank breather like the days of old had (todays engines produce a lot less blow by and shouldnt need a filter).

I'm kinda new to this. Can you explain what a quarter-turn trick is? I already ask my friend right here but he's a noob as well.

I assume the 1/4 turn trick is where you twist the hose back and forth 1/4 turn while pulling on it.
