How to pull engine codes?

How do I pull the engine codes on my 87 2.9l Ranger? In my 93 Jeep I just turn the key to the on position three times and leave it and watch the check engine light blink and count them. Is there a similar method to pull the OBD-I codes for my Ranger? I am keep on getting a random check engine light while driving.

I looked in the tech and it didn't explain how to pull them. Just the translation for them. Maybe I over looked it.

'87 will have to use analog meter method. Wire it up as shown in the tech library diagram. Turn the key on run, and codes will be represented with sweeps on the meter.
