My 1998 4x4 with 4.0 engine has code - D on the door sticker, which if im correct it should have the 5R55E Tranny.
I dropped the pan to replace valve body gaskets and solenoids and it has the Green EPC Solenoid.
The vendor i got my solenoids from sent a Red EPC solenoid.
They said the red would replace the green and was better.

Now from searching the web, i see that the 4R55E has the Green EPC and the 5R55E has the red Epc.
I dont have any history of the truck , so maybe someone put a 4R55E in it ??
It has a metal tag on the tranny but cant find a tag decoder.

How else can i identify which tranny is in the truck ??

That tag doesn't tell you too much. Post what it has and I can tell you what it means, but it's just a service level and build date.
