Hey guys I havnt been on in awhile but I need some advice, so I came to you guys.

the quick rundown: Im a mechanical engineering student and have a summer internship that I work 40+ hours a week, which is paid. i decided it would be a good idea to buy a motorcycle and get a second job to pay for it.

Well I got my bike and my second job, at little caesars, making pizzas. I have now decided that working 7:30am-midnight is not for me (or anyone else probably). Well I decided to sell the bike, I can always buy another one when I graduate. But ive been at little caesars about a week now and want out. My internship is plenty of income for me if I dont have the bike to pay for.

So the question, How would you recommend quitting my job since I've only been there a week? I wouldnt feel bad about it but the manager has already told me ive picked up so quick he cant even tell I just started. I dont know if I should just be straight up with them and quit cold turkey. Or give two weeks notice (I really dont wanna be there that long), or would a weeks notice be acceptable?

I welcome any advice you fellas are willing to share.
Thanks everyone

2 weeks notice is nice but you do what you gotta do. Since it's pizza, I would say tell your boss your internship increased your pay and that you don't need this job after all and you won't be continuing employment. Honestly is usually good policy, but hell, don't force yourself to work a crap job you dont want to.

Tell him you appreciate it...but the job is wearing you out as far as school goes....and you'd like to quit as soon as possible!

...after all--you made the decision to work for your toy....errrr....M/C......& he's got a business to run so he can pay his own bills...

make a grown-up decision here.....YOU CAN DO IT!

(besides....there's probably a few people here that wouldn't mind having a job right now--even a "crap-job")

which reminds me of a Waaaaar Story.....LOL!

I do not recommend using fire arms or explosives.

Could you hook me up with some LC pizza before you quit?

Too much pizza and motorcycles don't mix...do you really want to look like those chubby old bikers with a fat babe on the back hanging out of her clothes and chomping on pizza while you try to concentrate on Russian pedestrians jumping in front of you?

I'd give him at least a week notice and maybe offer to fill in a few nights if needed. He sounds like a nice guy so he'd probably understand your situation...like they said above, be up front and honest...

I delivered pizzas for a year to supplement my income...working both Sat and Sun wore me out pretty quick, but I managed...and I got to eat fresh pizza twice a week...bonus!

Good advice from the Wise Man! Hard to believe but I gave my last job before retirement, six months notice until I felt good about my replacement. Well that didn't work out good. They had me back after a month for six months on contract for 50% more. My replacement ended up in a five hour standoff with swat team over his girl friend. That was in the engineer design field and loved it.

Never burn those bridges, no matter what the job. Be honest an up-front.

well......that explains why you can't reach half the spark plugs on some cars..

It's Little Caesars.

In a job where no experience or certification is required, there is sure to be some turn-over. They are used to it. Your boss is going to be upset because his schedule has a hole in it, but it isn't the first time. Part of being the boss at L.C. is knowing how to cope with the slings and arrows of minimum wage work.

Just call him and tell him you aren't coming in any more. A mechanical engineer without Little Caesars on his resume still has a strong chance in the workforce.

By the way, my little brother and his wife met at Little Caesars, as employees. Both worked their way up into management positions and have many anecdotes about people calling in "sick and stuff" and leaving them with holes in the schedule. My brother ended up leaving that management job at L.C. and completing his degree in chemical engineering, working for 2 Fortune 500 companies, going to law school and then working for the last 6 years as a patent attorney. Point is, even L.C. managers have higher sights than making pizza. I wouldn't worry about their feelings. They are used to people bailing and it's what they get paid for. They aren't going to be happy, but screw 'em. Do what is best for you. They work in food service and that's the slings and arrows of food service. You don't need to give notice. Isn't going to make any real difference to them.

People are remembered when they are honest and upfront. I quit when the contractor on this site gyped me on wages. I told the site super why I was leaving and if he had need, to contact me. Its the main reason I picked up a 5 year contract siding houses for a big company. So, I'm not saying to stay on the job, just don't lie.

Why not keep working the job for a couple months? Get some extra spending money or something. But if you must quit, be honest.

Tell them the job is killing you and you need to quit asap, but you'd be willing to pull a few more nights until they get a replacement. But ONLY a few. Don't want to hang them out to dry, but they don't get the full two weeks either. Do unto others...
