How should I go about lifting my 1995 2WD Ranger?

So I have a 1995 2WD XLT Ford Ranger. It's front wheel drive and all that. I never wanted to lift it before just because I thought it'd be stupid to lift a truck that isn't even a 4x4. But considering I don't have the money to buy a new truck and the fact that it doesn't have that many miles, I think I do want to lift it. Maybe then it'd actually look like a truck instead of the sad mockery it is. lol.

I don't know how to go about doing all this though. I've looked into it and it looks like I could get some coil springs up front and add some leaves to the back? Maybe blocks on the back? from what it sounds like though, blocks could be a bad idea. I'm looking for like a 2-4inch lift.

Also my tires are 225/70/14.

Can anybody help me out here? I have no idea what I'm doing. :icon_confused:

Thanks!

like you said its pretty pointless to lift a 2wd truck, especially if its fwd,... idk if they make leveling kits for 1/4 ton tucks but if so thats the way i'd go versus an actual lift kit,

if you want a lifted truck id suggest finding and older 4x4 on craigslist or something.

Front wheel drive? Did you get some special version that is really rare?

F-150 coils will get you about 2 in of lift for cheap as well as Explorer springs in the back. You could probably find all of this at a junkyard. You will also need to grab shocks as well. 2 in of lift will allow you to fit up to 31 in tall tires. And there is nothing wrong with lifting a 2wd. Some times you have to make the best of what you have.

WHAT HE SAID ^^^^

you should have a 2wd rwd ranger.

also as a point to lifitng 2wd trucks espically 1/4 tons, they are actually prefered for baja and desert racing. as the waight and additional drag of a 4wd isnt worth the additional powered wheels.

if its a 95 it should still be the ttb front end and they make many kits for lifiting it. depending on what you want to spend put a lift kit on the front, flair the fenders and add 33's and add some leveling blocks to the rear or you could do a cage suspension set up in the rear and make it a full functioning desert rig.

its all about the budget and your skill set

lol yeah didnt realize I said it was fwd. it is rwd.

haha but I'm not looking to make it a desert rig or anything, I just want it to look like a truck. Its vain I know, but I'm 5'10 and I stand taller than it. :icon_rofl:

So I could use f150 coils on the front and explorer coils in the back and it would be level? also how do I go about knowing what shocks to get? haha sorry for the stupid questions

That is a complete kit, you dont need anything with it. That lifts the body off of the frame.

F150 coils will probably get you more than 2" of lift, and are probably stiffer than you want... What kind of engine do you have?

I have a 89 bronco II with 2.9l, and the 4.0l Ranger coils I just pulled from the wrecker have an extra wrap of wire, and sit almost 1" taller. I also plan to install some form of washer coil spacer... like this:

In the back is leaf springs, not coils... But Yes, Explorer leafs should give you about 2" of lift, maybe more depending how worn out yours are. 4x4 Rangers also came with 2" lift blocks, you could grab them out of a wrecker for dirt cheap (my wrecker didn't even charge me for 'em when I picked up coils and leafs last weekend. Total cost for 2 coils, 2 leafs, 2 blocks, $68.)

I have a 2.3l engine. ok so coils leafs and maybe some blocks is all I would need to give it some lift? If I got the f150 coils giving a little more than 2" of lift to the front. and explorer leafs and 2" lift blocks giving 4" to the back, would the truck look level?

also can I get bigger tires while still keeping the rims I have now? or the bigger tire I get the larger rim I need to get?

if i remember right you can fot 30's on stock rims without problems, but i think if you want to go bigger and wider you need some different rims. do you have the 15's or 14's?

you can put bigger tires than 30s on stock rims. its the width of the rim thats important when picking out different tires.

edit, i see you have 14s. ive never really seen many tires available for 14s, youd probably wanna find a set of 15s off of a ranger. which can also be had cheap from a junkyard. just make sure theyre all round and not cracked.

But if the rims are all roundy round you wont get that true off-road ride while prowling mall parking lots.:D
