That's pretty low.

You know the kid probably told his mom he got stuck and you did all the damage when you pulled him out.

Things like this make people afraid to help out others anymore.

Good Luck!

i hate to say it, but you might be in some shit. you really shouldnt have done anything without the owner's permission. i would have left the little booger there on his side till mommy got a look at it, then let her decide what to do.

I'd show the letter to the other neighbors who helped pull it out. I doubt she can say a damn thing if it actually goes to court, especially with the power of numbers behind you.

She will take $1800 and not notify my insurance or the police
If you have that in writing she's screwed anyway. I'm pretty sure that's illegal as HELL (extortion!)

Your mistake was not realizing this is ISN'T the world you grew up in. I would not even respond or talk with her until you talk with your lawyer. I trust that next time (we both know there will be a next time) you will call the cops on the little miscreants.

i know that in my state if you pull a car out of a ditch and cause any damage you are liable. so you might have some problems. best bet is next time let them figure out how to take care of it.

I'd get a few neighbors who were there at the time get together and pay her a friendly visit- with the hoodlums present- and ask her what she was told by the urchins. When they say they just broke down and you destroyed her POS towing it home I would have the neighbors tell her what really happened, and that you don't appreciate her letting those idiots drive her car illegally. What if they hit someone instead of rolled over? Think her insurance is going to cover that with a 13 year old behind the wheel? Tell her next time you call the cops and have the car towed...

I'm sure she got a line of BS from those kids who are trying to save their asses- but she should be asking around to see what really happened and not believe a pack of liars.

Contact your attorney, but DO NOT Respond.

leaving a note on your fence is not any kind of legal notification.

If you had talked to her in person and got a hint of what story her little darling told her to cover his own ass you might have a different outcome.

Personally in an identical situation I'd go ring her doorbell and discuss it with her and if the discussion didn't go "well" I'd smack her upside the head toss her inside the trashed car and set the pfuker on fire with her in it, then laugh hysterically while she tried to escape.

Bitchy people who breed lying idiots should be removed from the gene pool.
But that's just the personal opinion of a cranky 46 year old, I could be wrong.

You really should have left the little jerk where you found him.

what a beyatch! leave her a note for your towing bill of $1800. then you would be even.

You can't legally remove a vehicle from the crash scene and drag it home to hide the crash.

How is she going to contact the police? What is she going to do, tell them her punk ass kid hit-skipped and in the process of you helping him hide the crash from the police, did more damage to it?

I'm surprised she don't want to scare as much cash out of you as she can to make up for what she's going to pay out of pocket to get it fixed without a report.

Hey, she could always say you told her minor son to do it when all a long he was saying he should call the police and his mom. He only went along to what you were telling him to do because he was scared and only 13 years old.

Poor kid.

Ya, they're coming up with a plan now on how they'll keep the kid out of trouble for not reporting it and how there was only minor damage before you dragged it down the road.

If only you hadn't talked that kid out of calling his mom right away so she could have gotten a tow truck and prevent all that damage you did.

Isn't this a wonderful world we live in?

Contact your lawyer(s) to get their opinion on the situation, and do not talk to her in the mean time. If they say she has no case and for you to leave it be, leave it be, if they say she has a feasible fight against you, then get ready to see the court room. Just make sure that everyone who was there is willing to participate on your side and not hide on the sidelines. The more witnesses on your side the better. Also, don't say anything to anyone (aside from your lawyers), that may incriminate you. If a police report is filed, don't tell them anything they don't ask, but if they ask, tell them everything you know/remember. In order, and if you could even get it in writing and get a few copies of it, one as a hard copy, and one with the signatures of everyone who was there to back your side of the story that would be best, epically if this does happen to go to court.

EDIT - Also, because of my accident I had in November, I always carry a camera in my truck (digital, disposable, or whatever), just for situations like this, take before pictures, and pictures of every step you had to take. Make sure the license plate is visible in the pictures, and take one of the plate of each vehicle, making sure there is a picture of the entire vehicle in the initial position. Cover your ass by taking as many photos as possible, Photos don't lie, people do.

That'll teach YOU for being nice and helping someone!!! eh, burn her house down, make sure she's in it.

i read this story and started thinking... wheres this dude from? i would have never guessed, but some of the worst people ive ever met are from here in SD. the way they are raised and the way they deal with things seems like they always want the easy way out.

dont get me wrong. ive met great people here too, but the bad is just overwhelming. i hope i didnt offend anyone but this is what ive expierenced.

good luck canyoncritter!

id go hook up to it and yank the car down the street, and abandon it in the boonies, i wonder how she would like not having a car at all, at least she had something before
