I searched, but didnt come up with much. I found a truck I like, a black stepside regular cab 2.5L 5 speed. Its a 2000 model with 137k miles. I know how long a vehicle lasts varies greatly and is largely a result of how it was treated and maintained throughout its life.

On average, are the Lima's pretty good as far as being reliable? I don't need much, just something to get me to work and back and gets decent mileage.

Thanks,
Joey

My llama is very reliable.. Its kinda hairy and spits sometimes though...

we had a 93 2.3 that had 275k miles when my mom sold it. it didnt burn one drop of oil. and still runs, i see it on a regular basis down the road.

my 2.5 has 140k and runs nice, starts and goes with no issues or drama every day.

they might not have much power, but they do have reliability. u can red line those mofos every day and they take the abuse and still drive u home with decent mileage.

i strongly recomend them.
with a 5 spd of course LOL

too reliable. you'll never see it coming if it ever fails lol.

been driving mine for 5 1/2 years, ran it 10miles with no oil pressure, bounced it off the rev limiter countless times, raced, towed, drifted. i now drive 120miles daily with it and it just will not die even when i've tried to kill it.

i change the oil and coolant religiously

I've got almost 209,000 in mine.

Very reliable. I'm about to roll over 179k on mine, and it keeps chuggin right along.

The Lima has been around since '74. If it wasn't a good engine then why would they have kept making variations of the engine until 2001? And the 2.5 is the most powerful normally aspirated variation of that engine. Buy the truck and enjoy it. You will like it. Trust me.

Do they have llamas in Lima?

I wanna put one of these 2.5 units in an Escort or a Focus and let rip, see what happens. :icon_welder::icon_welder:

Most of the Fleet vehicals use the 4 banger. Thay have been around for years and if the Fleet owners had issues they would have switched to another company so don't worry about it. I just don't like a 4 banger in my trucks unsee it is the 22R motor I had in a few of my early 4x4 Toyota's. Those things just put out some power!! I would buy only a V6 in a Ranger, since I tow boats and RV's with my trucks and Jeeps. If you are not going to haul much then get that 4 banger!!!! Good luck, Bro!!!

believe it or not ive beaten up 22R toyotas with my 2.5.
so it would do good in 4wd configuration. but ohh shame Ford thogut it wouldnt.

sooo JFortner. u got that Ranger?
we have a tradition u know...
:worthless:

Limas wont die unless you neglect them for a long time. Like stated earlier, you can rev the piss out of them all day and not have issues.

My timing was off about 4 teeth and I didn't know it, and drove it on a road trip from Montana to Washington, Oregon, California, then across the country to Ohio, pulling a 2500 pound trailer the whole way without a hiccup. Good motors.

My 98 HAD a 2.5 in it, had 209K on the clock when the transmission decided to let go.

It was an automatic that had been run without trans fluid in it TWICE when the rear main trans seal let go. *They pounded the seal back in, and it let go again, and they refilled it with the wrong fluid.....

The motor still ran perfect when I swapped to the V-8 and sold it.

My uncle had a 97 with a 2.3 and 3.73 gears and an auto. He'd haul his 25 ft john boat from Atlanta to Florida and run 70 all the way with no problems.
