How often to change oil?

For oil changes? By 1-200 miles, but that's just to get me to the weekend when I have time to change it. What do I know though, I've got a few vehicles so I can afford to let one sit until I get around to changing the oil in it.

For other things? All the time.

I am doing 5K oil changes intervals on both my '04 Ranger 3.0 and wife's '04 Explorer 4.0. $3.80 for the Motorcraft filter at Walmart. $18 for 5 qt jug of 5w20 Ford syn blend for the 3.0. $4.50 per qt for the 5w30 in wife's Explorer. Nobody has Ford's syn blend 5w30 in 5 qt jug, just quarts. My 3.0 has 240k on it and has had nothing but Ford syn blend in it since the factory. Wife's Explorer is preowned from another state with no records so I have no idea of maintenance(probably none).

My wife used to have a 3.0 Taurus, I got used oil analysis on both Motorcraft and Mobil 1 5w-20 and after 5000 miles on each there was no difference. After that I saved money and got Motorcraft oil.

My F-150 (4.9L) gets Mobil 1 synthetic with a K&N, Mobil 1, Bosch, or Motorcraft filter every.... 10,000 miles.

Everything else is on 5k mile intervals for now with regular oil and Motorcraft filters. Haven't decided if I'm going to change that after I get the 4.0 and 2.9 motors done with a fresh top end.

I have 99XLT 3.0 flex fuel and i always use Mobile 1 Full Syn 5w30 and a Mobile 1 filter as it comes with my oil. I usually change the oil every 3-3500 miles. personally $35 every few months to ensure my oil is nice a clean is alright by me. i like the idea of knowing i jump in my ride at any time and drive cross country without thinking twice about any maintenance. Thats why i also change my air filter twice a year and my spark plugs and fuel filter once a year regardless of miles. Hopefully looking to get around 300k before an major troubles. Engine has 130k as she sits now and purrs like a tiny kitten every time she fires up. And shes never not fired up when ive needed her to and im only the 2nd owner.
