Ambitious, but rubbish.
In pulling the BW 1354 transfer case from the truck, I got about a pint or so of transmission fluid that spilled out of the joint between the two. How much is normal? If this is not normal, how do I get to the rear transmission seal to replace it?
I would imagine I have to pull the extension off the trans but in looking at it there appears to be no seal for the output shaft unless it's behind the extension. Is this correct?
The transfer case has all new seals and appears to have been rebuilt not too long ago so I'm about 99% sure the fluid is from the tranny. That and when I drained the transfer case the fluid was very dark while the fluid from the joint between the two was a bright red as per normal trans fluid.

There will be a little bit of tranny fluid when u split the transfer case. Around a pint is normal.

Thanks, but just to clarify, the fluid wasn't from splitting the transfer case, it came from separating the transfer case from the trans. If a pint is normal then I'll go ahead and remount the transfer case. I just want to make sure before I put it back together so I don't have to tear it apart again.

That is what I meant, removing the transfer case from the transmission.
