My credo
A properly suspensioned Ranger can be safely airborne for up to 4 seconds at a time! =:O
Just wondering about ft-lbs. per lb., you could say. :icon_idea:

Thats a little subjective. Both can cover a pretty good range.

Built/stock? Minor tweaks? Year Range?

*edit:

An all cast Iron 5.0/302 is going to run about 530lbs - ish. You can get them to around 450 with aluminum heads and a aluminum/plastic intake.

A 2.3L is around the 340lbs to my knowledge. it's all cast iron as well, and I know of no real aluminum heads that aren't all out drag race oriented.

All I know is that me and my buddy were really struggling to lift my 2.3, complete with accessories, out of the back of a pickup. It takes 3 to lift and put it on an engine stand.

My 302(avatar) weighs only 50lbs more than the 2.3(non-turbo) that was in there. But I'm also not running A/C or smog, so that sheds a few more pounds off the beast. I'm estimating around 310HP from the motor.(I hope)

Keep 'em coming. I know the 2.3 is a heavy little 4-banger, but I'm sure all that "beef" is a factor in why it's so "bulletproof".

Will it's so-called Duratech replacement achieve the same reputation? Hmmm...

PS: What's an "avatar" 302? :icon_confused:

I think my ranger gained about 100-120 pounds going from 2.3L and 5 speed to small block ford with aluminum heads and Lentech AOD transmission.

D'OH!!... sorry, little slow on the uptake here... thought it was the name of crate engine builder, lol...

Daaaang Iron Dude, that motor's gonna be too purdy to even put oil in!... the legendary blown-302... with the delightfully slave-cylinder-FREE T5... yummy.

Oh, it'll have a slave cylinder all right, just the piston style riding on the side. I need to weld up a bracket for this to be possible.
