Also, how many run them with the drum parking brakes and if you dont use the drum brakes, what did you do? Completely do away with them?

Also, what pinion angle should I set with 2 inches of lift?

Thanks!

Not was I was looking for bro but thanks....I have the complete parking brake cables already...they should work from what I see. What Im really looking for is how difficult it is to install the parking brake shoes and who actually runs them.

The disc brake expo axle runs an internal drum emergency brake inside the rotor. It worked on my truck fine, I even got away with stock cables (slightly re-routed lower) and 8" of lift.

Ohh my bad man i thought you didnt have it yet, i was just looking at that thread it seemed like what you were asking.

As far as PA inspection laws go, you are gonna want to run the parking brake that comes with the axle. Mustang 8.8 calipers might get you close, but I don't think the cables will hook up right.

As for actually putting the drum style parking brake on the 8.8, not hard. It will hook right to the factory cables and is easier to put together than a standard drum brake setup.

I think the parking brake cable attachment is different on a disc Ex axle than what a Ranger has, so I don't think stock Ranger cables will attach at the brake itself.
However you can attach the stock main cable on a Ranger to the Explorer's P-brake cables using a fabbed-up linkage of some sort (I used a piece of allthread, some nuts, and some pieces of old cable hardware welded together for the one on my BII). The Ex P-brake cables are shorter than Ranger/BII cables so you'll also need to fab up a new cable bracket to replace the one attached at the forward leaf spring hanger.

As for installing a set of p-brake shoes into an Ex disc setup, I do seem to recall it being a major PITA unless you pulled the axle shaft out.

Okay cool...was curious about that...ADSM08....do you know of a write up for doing them?

And Junkie....Axle shafts are already pulled...that might make it easier. Thanks for the tip!

A write up for doing the brakes? Not off the top of my head, but it wouldn't be all that hard for me to swing by some Sunday and help you throw them in.

I have a set of assembled parking brakes, right to the cables, and the cables look a lot like the Ranger cables.

The ebrake cable issue is actually fairly simple. Use the ebrake cable off an explorer axle. Join it to the original Ranger ebrake cable outside the frame at the splice connector. Works just fine.

I used the stock ranger main cable and the stock expo cables, and a factory piece to join the two... but I can't remember which it came from, lol.

Okay I'll take you up on that when I gather all my parts up. I have a set of expo cables already that came with the axle.

Here's a good writeup for the shoe replacement. Say it's much easier to do with axles out (just like you guys said)

It is easier to put them together with the axle shafts out, but it is not easier to take the shafts out just to do the parking brakes.

BUMP....still need suggestions for pinion angles for 2" of lift. The tech section said 6 degrees but didnt say how much lift was necessary...I need to get the angle off the one in the truck now with the weight of the vehicle on it, correct?
