how many miles can I go before changing timing belt

I have a 96 2.3L at 110k. How many kms did you go before changing? Anyone have one break? if so at what kms and was the engine ruined?
what is the recommend mileage to change for the 2.3l

You can keep going until it breaks if you like, no engine damage will occur. You're due now though according to the Ford manual.

Early square tooth engines, 80,000, newer round tooth engines 100,000. This is recommended changes, but many go well over this mileage with no problems.shady

I had over 190k when I changed mine. Still looked to be in good shape. Probably could of gone another 10-20k easily.

Yes,it is true that they will go longer but in the mean time the belt is streching,retarding timing,reducing performance.Besides,who knows when it will break,leaving you beside the road or in our case,coming out of turn 4 heading for the checkered flag

Just in case yours ever does snap off. Remember this, DO NOT TRY TO TURN IT ON! Just leave it and tow it.

I would recommend you check it now and make shure it is not worn out. Mine broke off at 167K miles.

the 2.3/2.5 is a non interference engine, so it doesn't matter too much, the only bad thing that can happen is the crank sensor getting thrown out of wack
