I working on a school project and I was just wondering if anyone new exactly how many diesel rangers were made? Or any more info like how many came with 4x4 ect.

Thanks!!!

Not nearly enough. That's exactly how many were made.

at least two.

slow as fawk.......and got run down by a snail....

They're not that slow, i tightened up my wastegate and can cruze at 70 up and down hills on the interstate between the Bighorns and the Blackhills.

Besides, it's torquey as hell, and has spent most of it's life pulling stuff, and it's still going strong.

Thar's an ignorant statement, the 2.3 Turbo Diesel Rangers were very fast for there day. They ran from 0-60 in under 12 sec which made it the fastest stock truck produced in 1985 and that includes the full size trucks. The only truck that was quicker was the Mitsubishi Turbo Diesel but thats because it weighed less than the Ranger and had different gearing.

i know i sure liked mine...except that it had a tendency to tear up drivetrain components.

don't let the numbers fool you, this truck had some oomph to it.

Not enough, 'cause I don't have one, nor have seen one in person. I wish I had one so bad.

according to autozone's website 1% of rangers per year were the 2.3 diesel

I drove a 2.2l down a driveway once. Strange little thing, but was kind of cool.

its definitely an ignorant statement. and meant to be ignored.:D

i drove these trucks when they were brand new. the 410/ 351 trucks did 60 under 11 seconds and 1/4 just under 20 as did the later 2.9 which made it out in late 85 as well iirc. i dont remember being beat by diesel anythings ever:icon_confused:

maybe it was quicker to 60 then all the small trucks, it sure as hell wasnt quickest through the 1/4. regardless, anything comparatively to the mid eighties is ignorant when speaking in performance terms. i mean the 2.9 was a friggen hot rod! my 88 out did any diesel ranger by a big margin, especially on the freeway.
:dunno:

and 2.9's didnt?

2.9 and performance:icon_surprised:, comedy finds its way:icon_rofl:

the difference i found was that the 2.9 needed to be revved to make it's power, the td i liked to keep below 2200 rpm.it was no highway hot rod,but with 3.54 gearing and 33'' tires it had no troubles climbing trail obstacles.i would leave the clutch alone and let it bog down to 700rpm,then get on the throttle.this was when it had a tendency to tear off the clutch lining.
although this may not be saying much,i learned all about the weak points of 7.5 rears and d 28 fronts before upsizing the tires.it also tought me about input gears on the 5 speed tranny.

Other generic "Bobby's brother can't drive" joke.
