the difference i found was that the 2.9 needed to be revved to make it's power,the td i liked to keep below 2200 rpm.it was no highway hot rod,but with 3.54 gearing and 33'' tires it had no troubles climbing trail obstacles.i would leave the clutch alone and let it bog down to 700rpm,then get on the throttle.this was when it had a tendency to tear off the clutch lining.
although this may not be saying much,i learned all about the weak points of 7.5 rears and d 28 fronts before upsizing the tires.it also tought me about input gears on the 5 speed tranny.
