How long can it sit?

Looking at the rebuild kits on Autozone, it looks like there is only 20'ish pieces. Same you guys got? Hell, I might tackle this. Any other parts needed? Assuming the main drive, etc...isn't shot. How well has yours held up?

Trans guys are quoting me a grand to rebuild bearings and syncros.

Maybe I will find a cheap trans and rebuild it before I yank mine out.

How long did it take you to complete it?

No we ordered it online... I'll try and talk to him tomorrow... I think it was some company called Tiamico or some weird japanese type name... :icon_twisted:

No it contained pretty much everything you need, the only thing it was missing was the syncros cause we didn't need em' and the input shaft. Why do you need to rebuild it?

So far its held up to my abuse, like really well. It made a high pitch whining sound right after i got it done for a few hundred miles which I'm pretty sure was just the new part wearing in... It's lasted like 10,000 miles or so with no sign of troubles.

yeah that would probably be a good idea, still have something to drive and if you screw up your not screwed.. :dunno:

It took me... 3 -4 months... but I was also in school and workign at the time so in all of the actual working on it... maybe like a week of come home at 6 and work till 10... give or take.

If you take a series of photos as you take it apart it makes re-assembly easy. gotta love digital cameras.

The input shaft is making a lot if noise, 2nd and 3rd gears are noisy and I have to change the gear oil every 4K or so to keep it clean and free of metal shavings. Getting more difficult to shift as well. Other than that it seems to drive fine.

Oh... well if you found a transmission to swap it with I would say swap in the other one and fix yourscause it sounds in bad shape. :icon_thumby: That ways you can take it apart and find out everything you need.
