How hard is it to do a body lift?

just take your time, it's not that hard, tighten everything up snug, then move the bumpers around so they look right, then tighten everything up little by little, sometimes when you tighten it really tight, it will twist the bumpers and make it look off... i would do the cab before the box, also, try to get the cab as close to lined up as possible, before you do the box, then get the final touches on lining it up with the box...

MEASURE EVERYTHING, i would even measure where the bumpers sit compared to the headlights and fenders... everything...

it's not hard, it just takes time and a little but if finesse, maybe a little time as a perfectionist... do it right the first time so you don't look at your bumper a week later and notice it's crooked and looks like ass and get pissed at yourself

OH!!!! and you CANNOT use your bumper for towing after you lift it, this goes back to the DOT regulations (see my post in another thread) the relocation brackets that come with the PA kit are NOT DOT approved, even though they look stronger to me, they are not rated (read officially designed or approved) for any weight, therefor the liability lies on you if anything happens... if you have a receiver hitch, don't worry about this, though your receiver hitch will hang down below the bumper and look a little funny... this can be modded to make it sit right, but again, not DOT approved (although you could argue that you bought the truck that way, and were told it was safe)

edit: actually, thinking about it, if you do the hitch lift mod yourself, all but the welding, and get the welding done by a licensed welding shop, they should be able to stamp it certifying that it is a legal structural weld and you are no longer liable for anything, this is the route you should do if you have this problem...

lol im abou 6'2'' so i should be good.thanks for the info.but the gf might have a problem.guess rock sliders and a pull up bar are in the works.haha

haha yeah i have to lift my girlfriend into it everytime. she likes it high though!

as far as the bumper brackes go, they dont make them for the 1st and 2nd gen rangers like us. for the front, im just going to take a rectangle piece of steel on each side, measure, and drill the holes.

now for the back, it doesnt look too terrible, so im personally gonna leave it be. now if you want to raise it, but also like to tow anything with it, your easiest bet would be to invest into a hitch reciever.

yes sir!lol I have a hitch reciever here i just havent put it on beacuse i knew i would be throwin a bl on it sooner or later. And when you do that let me know how that goes on the front bumper. So they at least make them for the rear then?

no they dont make them for the front or the rear. they will both have to be custom made.
heres a rough idea for the front. now keep in mind i did this just real quick so youd have an idea, these are ROUGH measurements, and WILL need to be tweaked.

Okay thanks.:icon_thumby:

i can't find the pics, but basically, you just chop 3" off of both sides of the hitch, what i would do is take the plate that is shaped lika a J and goes up to the frame, cut it straight across level with the top of the J...

screw it i'll ms paint what i'm talking about, this hitch is not from the ranger, it's about as close as i can find though... like i said earlier, i would get a licensed welding shop to weld this, if you ever plan to tow on the street, if it's just for recoveries off road or towing on a farm, do it yourself (if you can weld)

I can weld pretty good now but I think I will have a shop do it just for good measures.Just to be on the safe side.

honestly, it's not a safety issue, it's a legality issue, if that weld breaks, the person who welded it is liable, if it's a licensed welder, he will have insurance for that... and even if something else breaks they could say you made modifications to your hitch, you must have made modifications to something else to cause it to break

Well if this is a legality issue then I will have a shop do it. plus I just dont trust myself enough to do it,and have it take a dump while i'm goin down the road.
