Good Morning, I have a 2004 2wd ranger and a 1968 289 v8. I've read a zillion articles about putting the v8 in the ranger. Some say it's not too bad, some say it's next to impossible. Which is it?

next to impossible.

JK, I have NO idea

A 1968 289 probably barely rivals the stock engine for power unless you plan to put a good bit of time and money into it.

Thanks, I'm not sure what a 2.9 cologne is ?

Don't listen to Dirtman.

Actual photo of the first 2.9 ever built.

It can be either one. It depends on your skill level, how much time you have, what tools you have available, your budget and probably a few other things. We don't have any of that information about you. If this will be your very first ever engine swap, then it's next to impossible. If you've done a few swaps and have good fabrication and problem solving skills with a well equipped toolbox, then it's doable. There are other swaps that would be cheaper, easier and give better performance in the end.

Nice introduction! haha, cut him just a little slack now and then.

Oh, yeah. Sorry. I forgot to add "welcome to TRS". We're not trying to beat you down. It's just that your question was a bit difficult to answer the way you asked it. There's a great wealth of info in this forum and in the "How To Tech" section of this site. Keep reading and keep asking questions.
