How far have you traveled for a Ranger?

I was very lucky. An older gentleman had just parked it on a residential street with a For Sale sign less than a 1/4 mile from me. I picked it up immediately for a ridiculously low price...Cash is King! I would travel to find a good vehicle but it's harder if the seller isn't upfront and honest about the actual condition.

I was curious because I'm thinking about making a long drive for one. 96 XLT extended cab, 4.0, 5 speed with manual transfer case. I know they aren't super rare but they don't pop up often and the manual transfer case was the one thing I would have changed about my 94 that I had for years. It's nothing special really, just what I want.

You wanting it is what makes it special. That's all that matters.

If its a 4x4 manual 4.0 ohv with manual transfer case, I'd go check it out, at least! Depending on the advertised details.

If and when I decide to build a truck... I'm gonna be willing to travel a pretty far distance to have rust free.

And it will only be rust free for a week. If that.

Ok, I’ll play….

My first Ranger (first vehicle actually), the 2wd 2000 in my sig, my parents drove about 100 miles into Ohio for. They made the deal and brought it home to me. I got the keys and payments. Paid it off just in time to wrap it around a tree.

My 88 Bronco II was my second vehicle, bought it before wrecking the 00. Recruited a buddy to help and we went something like 700 miles to fetch it from Long Island. I got about 3 months out of it before it ate a valve.

My 89 Bronco II choptop came from Philly. Drove all the way across the state by myself for that one. Both that and the 88 came home on a tow dolly behind my first Ranger.

86 Bronco II that I stripped for parts came from about an hour away. That rode the big trailer home behind a dump truck, 89 F-350, lol. That and the two before it came from former TRS members.

Bought an 89 Eddie Bauer Bronco II off a junkyard at college. There’s a little story there. I fixed it up, drove it as a campus beater, then sold it to one of my professors for his kid before I left.

The 95 F-150 came along after wrecking the Ranger. That wasn’t far, just a few miles down the road. That was my primary until my hip got smashed when I was driving dad’s v-8 Ranger and a kid ran a red light.

Enter my green 00 Ranger, which was about 3 hours away. I was still on crutches following surgery for that, and I drove it back after mom took me out to look at it.

The 94 dump came from dad. Just had to walk out to the driveway.

89 Bayliner came from just up town.

97 Explorer came from about a half hour north.

98 Explorer (stripped for parts) was a roughly 300 mile trip one way into Ohio. My GF was with me for that. Came home on a tow dolly behind the 150.

92 Ranger came from my longest friend, just up on the other side of town. I wired up a sub panel in his garage and got the truck, which was awesome until the oil pump packed it in on the highway. Still, I put about 12k miles on it, so my only real complaint is the inconvenient timing.

Made a trip down to by my brother for a 99 Ranger for my dad, went down with mom, that was a good 4+ hours to Virginia outside of DC.

Mine came into my dad's shop on an errand when the summer before my sophomore year. Drove about 6 miles to pick it up.

About 6 miles for my '21

2ish hours and crossed state lines to buy my previous '10. It was the only reg cab 2wd 2.3 manual I could find.

My buddy wants to buy a chebbie 2500HD. He wants to pay to fly me to Georgia and drive it back since trucks down their are cheaper and cleaner. That will be my farthest trip to get any vehicle, about 800 miles. So all members on the east coast be ready to push a chevy!


I did get a 67 Chevy C-10 in NC when I was 18 and drove it home 500 miles in winter with no heat, no radio, manual steering, manual drum brakes, 3 speed on the column with no synchros and an inline six that barely did 55mph. But everyone does insane things when they are 18.

I'd be OK with that, he's paying for the ticket and $500 cash for gas and expenses to bring it home. I'd just take the 500 and party at my sisters for a couple weeks and fly back home.

I'm more worried about it having functional AC... I don't exist above 75 degrees....
