How far can you go on a Fuel filter.....without changing it?

What is the absolute farthest you can go? How far do you want to go?

Anymore the fuel is so clean they don't even put filters on the cars. I am replacing 30K mile fuel filters which 5 years ago would have stuff that looked like mud running out the tank side. The stuff coming out of these ones is clean and clear.

If your system has one I'd replace it every 10 years regardless of mileage. The guts tend to come apart after a while.

124,423 miles. That's what one of the guys at work made it to before his car wouldn't start in the parking lot.

**disclaimer: your mileage may vary.**

new resin in ground fuel tanks keep the fuel at the stations very clean compared to the old iron ones, but in some states off the beaten path stations, that hasnt happened yet, those stations will just go out of bussiness due to the cost of deposal of the old tanks, cost has now gone thru the roof

229,xxx miles on the factory filter, still going. 05 with a 2.3

Don't know if its the filter you have to worry about. Just changed my fuel pressure regulator and found out why it wasn't working right. .. the smaller hole on the bottom was plugged up with black gunk. Truck has a 4.0 with nearly 300k on it

03 jeep 3.7 has about 200k on the clock. Still runs pretty good besides the problems they have. No fuel issues tho. It's got a largely inaccessible, nonservicable filter meant to last the life of the vehicle.

I personally dont trust those kinds of filters.

On my '02 F-150 I change mine every 30k if for no other reason so it doesn't rust in and put up more of a fight to remove.

I follow a schedule in 5's.
Oil & Filter - Every 5k miles
Transmission Oil - Every 25k miles
Diff Gear Oil - Every 50k miles
P/S Oil - Every 25k miles
Coolant - Every 25k-50k miles or when PH drops below 7
Air Filter - Every 25k miles, unless driven in dusty conditions then sooner.
Fuel Filter - Every 25k miles
Timing Belt - Every 50k miles
Fan Belt - Every 25k-50k miles
Spark plugs & wires - Every 50k miles
Fuel O2 Sensor - Every 50k miles
Cat O2 Sensor - When it has failed or trips code

My trucks get them every other oil change or 10,000 miles...of course you didn't specify on fuel type. <- diesel.

Answers please.
Until fuel stops flowing there is no answer to this question. It is like asking what is the absolute longest time you can go without changing the oil filter. How much money would you spend in poor gas mileage from a fuel restriction and the possibility of engine damage. If your truck spends alot of time sitting change it more often.
