Put a carb on a 4.0?

No, serious question, no kidding. I have lucked into a (free) 4.0 SOHC with blown head gaskets. Thinking about putting it in my 78 olds. May go FI. Not sure about the whole thing yet either, 'cept that I'm getting a free 4.0 SOHC.

In the tech library there is a picture of a 4.0 carb. intake adapter, about half way down the page.

Here is the pic.

a custom upper intake manifold

I know.

Just wanted to see what kind of responses I could get.

If I do this, I will scavenge almost everything out of a Mustang.

Yea Morana makes a carb intake but it is only for the OHV.

Looks like it cost around 900.00 for the adapter though.

Really hoping to not invest more than 100 or so in this engine. 900 might be the budget for the whole build.

I bet Gwaii has one laying around in his garage.:D

Out of curiosity, if you were able to get/make an intake with a carb, what would you do for ignition?

You could always do what Tom did for his GT12 build. Take intakes cut'em in half then turn around and weld together. Then make a mount for it to sit on. I dunno just my .02.

Honestly, I think the bigger challenge in this potential project will be how to mount a 4.0 SOHC and Tremec or M5OD into a 1978 Oldsmobile Omega.

And before I deal with that, I have to overcome those 4 drive shaft bolts that I rounded off a few years back.
