I had this in another post but the title was not accurate so I'm trying this again.

How do you remove and install the starter on a 96 Explorer with the OHV Engine and the Auto Trans? There does not seem to be enough room to pull it out the bottom.

I am actually swapping motors and the bad motor in the truck has no heads so I was able to pull the starter out the top.

I Hope to drop the new motor in tomorrow and I have no idea how I'm going to get the starter back in after the newer complete motor is installed.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!
Bill

Remove the balancer on the front diff and the rear-most bolt holding the diff in the frame, this will give you enough room to drop the starter and scoot it out going rearwards.

Sorry for the late reply, that worked out great!
Truck is back on the road again!

I do have a couple other little issues but I'll start new threads for each.

Thanks again!
Bill
