how do you make an 88 ranger good in the sand

33x12.50 Truxus STS's All Terrain-ish tire supposedly made for sand. These were on my truck for a while, wore ok and never had any problems with them in the sand. Actually took the truck over a small sandy beach and turned around in the river couple of times without issue. None of my Taco or Yota buddies could do it. They're worthless in the mud though

i would say no. plus you dont need anything like that to get around in the sand.

keep it and make it work for you. put a good set of all terrrains or mud terrains, air down and have a blast. youll get around just fine, no need for high dollar paddle tires and such. i spend alot of time at the silver lake sand dunes here in michigan and have never had a problem getting around or climbing the hills even when i was on stock tires. just airing down, picking the right gear in 4 low and keeping momentum.

imma up a silver lake alot too...we had an older burban that had 33' a/t (m/t mostly will dig in way to much, still can do decent) aired them down i think we did 12psi...5 is very low on a heavier vehicle...

paddles ARE NOT neccessary...they just add more fun, and you get around easier (still air the down) they do make huge paddles, multipaddles, (if you want i can get you sites for them)

momentum helps, but if you get in the whoops, its your enemy...keep in the gas all the way up the hills decent rpms, downshift when it bogs...basic stuff really..

yep, rpms are your freind especially with a small V6. ive never had an issue with my MT's there though, they seem to do better than my AT's i had before them but they are 2 inches wider which helps im sure.

yeah im sure the extra width is making up for the digging in.....

its nice to know others go up to silver lake...but i really wanna hit up some of the western dunes once, like glamis and stuff.

yeah i only live about 40 minutes south of silver lake so we make it up there alot in the summer.

wow, that is nice....i live about 4 hours away(if im at my parents house)....or 5 if im at my apartment....

yeah, im thinking lower air pressure and some wider tires...dont pin it from the start..not digging in is the biggest thing.

looks like the red one has a 3 inch lift on it... put some 31-10.50's on it an run 15psi. mabey general grabber at2's. or some very mlld mud terreins. you should do fine then.
just keep your momentum up! i have to do that with my 2wd ranger.. in dry sugar sand

Air down and run the widest tire you can, like a 12.50 or bigger. It'll help you float on the sand, similar to how snow shoes work in the snow. IMO a A/t tread is better than a M/t or other aggressive tread.

I agree with this, my M/T's do good in the sand but they have not nearly as much spacing between the tread as some M/T's. An all terrian tire will help you float well on top of the sand.

the thing i have learned in the sand, is that if you start to spin without moving forward, STOP

you'll only dig deeper, its not like a rock where you might grab and go forward.

That looks strangely like Alaskan sand... Oh it is! :icon_thumby:

Yeah over in homer our beach doesn't seem to get that bad, but I think the best thing for your trucks are wider tires, you can even just get a set of super wide tires on seperate cheap rims and when you want to go to the beach swap em out.

Oh and isn't one of your trucks on CL?

thats a good idea. I didnt post it on craigslist, do you have a link? maybe someone stole pictures of my beautiful trucks.

The shortest widest baldest tires tires you can get a hold of.Ive seen tires that have had the tread cut off of them and they worked great. The paddles aren't the most important part of a sand tire. It's the smooth flexible part of the tire.If you have a l/s in your stuff that would help.

Well maybe not but i swear one looked alot like it for some reason... Can't find it anymore. But i cruise it late at night so who knows what I saw...

This would actually work and you could probably get them from a tire shops disposal tires, like the ones no one wanted the guy threw out but they were too worn down to justify being good to keep for a spare by the shop...
