How do you like your 5g?

Weird? Click on the "2019 Ford Ranger Specifications" link.

What garbage are you referring too? I was apprehensive when we bought our Ranger. I do my own maintenance and thus far it's been flawless. And we've used it to haul loads, tow our trailer, and driven it through some pretty icy, snowy, nasty weather.

Still waiting to see that stat's on your "real truck" so we can compare them to the new garbage we're driving.
I didnt realize there was a link in it...but here...

Thats for an 85 Ranger.

Lets see, the 2019 beats it in power, and towing capacity. The 85 was available with a front limited slip, and rear trac-lok, the new ranger has an rear Elock but only an open front end.

Payload? Pretty even.

4x4 Longbox 85 has a payload capacity of 1640lbs (Max GVWR of 4480 minus max curb weight of 2840)

Screenshot_20201229-171737_Drive.jpg

2019 Supercab 4x4 (no supercab in 85) but with a max payload of 1650.

Wash.

Cant find ground clearence specs on the 85, 2019 says 8.6inches. Ill bet the 85 is every bit of that if not more.

So, unless you plan on towing the 85 is just as capable.

Not to mention the 85 is going to have stronger body panels, less shit to fail, the availbilty of lockouts, manual trans, etc.

So the new ranger maybe safer and get somewhat better mileage...but from a strict capability standpoint...its not really that much better.

Oh and that 7500lb tow rating? Looks good on paper...but figure a perfect tounge weight of 10% (750lbs) and youve already eaten half your payload. Good luck getting anywhere near that rating (legally).

Rusty is gonna 'upgrade' to a D9 cat dozer one of these days.... much less damage hitting trees, but freeway commute times are a booger....
You saying dozers are slow? I believe this one would get me to work on time. I don't commute on the interstates though.

You're a weird dude...

Oh and a 92 4x4 (oldest gen i could find) 5500lb tow rating. Assuming its for a 4.0....states automatic. Once again...new ranger dont look all that great.

I'll agree that I'd like to have been able to get a manual transmission.

Other than that you've proven my point by writing "So the new ranger maybe safer and get somewhat better mileage...but from a strict capability standpoint...its not really that much better."

So in your own words the 2019/2020 is better than your real 1985 "real truck".

A good friend of mine bought a '85 Ranger new. I had just bought a new '85 S-15. I spent quite a bit of time in his '85 and it was a nice truck, for it's era. Compared though to a 2019/2020, well, you've shown us the '85 is not as capable with the exception of an available locking front axle. And since your truck is 2wd, that's a moot point.

That would be just the thing for pesky rush hour traffic on I-35!!!!

Its not gods gift like yall claim to be. That was my point of this.

I also originally made a comparsion to a 77 F150. The fact a mid 80s midsize is damn close to being even in capability proves my point a 70s 1/2 ton would obliterate it.

See what I mean...

Some things never change.

We're comparing mid size trucks, not full size. You're grasping at straws. This thread is about "How do you like your 5g"

So how do you like your 5g @rusty ol ranger?

Hey guys, I hope everyone is having a good holiday season. Good to be back.

Like the title states... how do you like your new ranger? I'm considering taking the (rather large) plunge and buying one. I've sufficiently justified the purchase both to the fiance and myself.. id just like to know what the truck is like to live with long term.

I'm sure there's a million reviews out there from various websites/blogs/vlogs/clogs.. whatever.. i just value the opinions of you guys more I guess lol. All those people generally seem like morons or tryhards.

Thanks in advance.

It's "better than a rusty old '85 Ranger" :derisive:

Youre grasping at straws. Youre the one that wanted to compare it to midsizes after everyone shit themselves over my comment about a 77 F150 being more truck.

Oh and mines an 87. Either way, we are done here.

But we have proven the new Rangers are "better than a rusty old '85 Ranger" though. :derisive:

You go get a bar of soap, sit in the corner and think about what you just said!

:flipoff:

My dad had a single-cab '76 with what I believe was the 360 engine. Total dog of a truck, in terms of performance, and there's a reason trucks of that era had TWO gas tanks ;)

Being lucky to get anywhere close to 100K miles with an automatic, another point in favor of the 70s ;)

The pinion got so loose in the rear end, you'd put it in reverse, and start counting till the KER-WHANG when all the slack got taken up....

Yup, the pinnacle of truck development......
