How do I replace the valve spring?

Got my truck back from the shop, found out I have a valve spring broken on cylinder 5. I got the valve cover off and removed the rocker arms, but now I'm not sure how to get the spring off. I've heard it can be done with the head still on if I can keep the valve up, but I don't know how to remove the spring, no luck searching either, even on alldata.

also you need to pressurize the cylinder with air to avoid dropping the valve in the cylinder with the spring out

or fill the cylinder with a long piece of string/rope, obviously leaving one end out so you can pull it all back out of the cylinder.

Got it changed out. I bought the spring compressor from advanced for 20 bucks and used a long piece of 1/4 inch hose I had in the garage to keep the valve up. I got it changed, put it back together then it ran great for about 4 minutes. Then it started running horrible again. I took it back apart and a different spring was busted so I pulled them all off. One broke in my hand... I changed all the springs, and put on a used but good shape rocker arm assembly and changed all the pushrods as they were worn. It ran good for another 3 or 4 minutes and its starting to run rough again now... I have to tear it back down and give it a look. Could I have a bent valve causing a spring to bust? The pushrods didnt look bent when I removed them, and the rocker arms were worn but not damaged. If I can't get this thing fixed, I'm going to have to sell it. And with all the money and work I've got into it, that would be a real shame.
