New laptop. I messed up and connected to wifi before completing setup. Now I am stuck on the set up a Microsoft account screen. How do I get out of this and set up without making an account?

So far my only plan is hike the laptop out of wifi range and try completing setup.

Does the laptop go immediately into the Windows 11 crap or does it allow you to get to the laptop home screen?
Is there something under the SETTINGS menu or can you restart in SAFE mode and go from there. Some (Most) times I hate windows

It's been a while but there's a key combo to get to task manager during setup to kill that process...

Edit - try this:
"On the Windows setup screen, press SHIFT+F10, and verify that the command prompt starts.

Type the command below and press Enter:

oobe\bypassnro

After this, the computer should restart and allow you to set up a local user."

on just about every laptop I have seen there is a extended function key set that will disable wifi - on my HP for example it is "Fn + F12" wher Fn is an extra 105th key over a standard 104 key - "Function" the icon for that is an airplane - aka airplane mode.

Just set up an account and start saying "Baaaaa".

I heard set one up and remove it later, or ignore it. But I'd rather try other options first if there are any at this point.

I tried em all. Does nothing.

That works if I had not connected to wifi already...so I'm screwed.

It should work anyway because it drops the existing process. Unless something's been changed, yours is the exact use case where I've done this.

Hold down the shift key and click restart. That should restart in safe mode and will allow you to stop or remove any recently installed software that is causing you grief.
From Mr. Google:
You would start your computer in safe mode to troubleshoot potential issues with your operating system, as it loads only the essential system files and drivers, allowing you to identify if a problem is caused by a recently installed program, driver, or other software that isn't included in the basic startup process; if your computer functions normally in safe mode, then the issue likely lies with a non-essential program or driver that loads during normal startup.

I just did this on my ACER laptop and you should see this screen

I'm guessing that somewhere in Troubleshooting, you might find a solution...however, it is microsoft...

This is the exact process that I do on new Windows 11 machines and it works every time.

Except, you often have to do it two or three times before you see the "create offline account" option.

And whatever you do, do NOT connect it to the internet...wifi or otherwise... until you have completed the process or you won't have the option to do an offline account.

I use Linux. It saves me a lot of time fooling around with Microsoft's shenanigans.
