Still to buy - 4.88 Gears front and rear, L/S for Rear, Locker for front, 8.8" rear axle, Some better D-Rings for towing and a winch and bumpers.

I guess my running total is about 2500 bucks so far, but figure on about another 1200 to get the rest of my wish list. Also have a 1350 T-Case in the truck with a 1354 T-Case sitting at home collecting dust....wondering what to do with it....hahaha....I may one day get motivated enough to try a doubler!

That's a great looking B2 and it looks to be very capable off road. I think your build is the tops. $200 for axles like those is a steal!

Vanessa and I went to the salvage yard today and found some interesting stuff.

Ran across an early Bronco with no front wheels on it. It had disc brakes in the front. I asked and they told me it was a 1971. I'm thinking 1977 but someone was confused at some point. They want $250.00 for the complete front axle assembly.

Went and checked out the Rangers. Found (2) with lift kits. One looked like a Trailmaster. The other was a Superlift with extended radius arms.

What a shame man. It was a nice extended cab STX that looks like it hit a pole right in the middle of the grill with a complete Superlift kit.

This is what I meen. You can find deals if you look hard enough.

Ya, she's like a kid in a candy shop. We needed a new cable for the release on the gas door of her Honda. We were all over the place looking at all the various vehicles. She went nuts when we got to the section with Rangers. I'm not allowed to replace her old cable until she's home from work to help. She wants me to show her how to do it. I guess she's always had a desire to be a mechanic.

She came up with an idea today to buy junk Rangers, salvage the good parts like hubs, transfer cases, axles, etc and shelve them for use later and scrap the rest of the truck.

God I'm a lucky man!

i got u all toped i am looking for pics but till then i built an 88 ranger 4x4 with a 302 from a junkyard 250$ machined the block 200$ bearing$ 50$ transsmision was a c5 i bealive and i had it in my garage so free i honestly dont know how i got it lol a wrecked straight axel 78-f-150 350$ dana 44 high pinion and a swaped in 9in that was already on 46 in tractor tires plus some odds and end drive shafts, bolts, assorted metal and other meterials and bs need to do all this 400$ scraps layin aound so 1250 tottal on worn out tractooor tires and decent but only DECENT axels never really got stuck that much thoe unless it broke lol need less to say i was 16 and broke

thats $1600 plus $15 a tire mounted and balanced..... the cost of diesel fuel to go pick up the explorer and the tires.

For another $200 Kyle said he would throw in the winch.

Thats $1860. For what would be a very capable trail rig.


There is another member with a 93 reg cab 4.0L 5spd with 4.10 locked. Explorer rear with disc ....... has a level lift. Trim the fenders and find some CL 33x12.50/15 ..... another very cable trail rig for less than $2000 ...... $300 or so for one of those mile marker winches........

5 15x10 alum rims with 50% 33x1250 bfg mudders $250
total $2085 for a good looking daily driver. weld the axle and it will take on most trails.
i did have to have my buddy rebuild the 5r55e at 170k but he hooked me up $250 for a rebuild, just had to pull it and take it to his garage

I am collecting the parts for the suspension from work, as they are free, if I don't mind waiting until we scrap the truck that has the parts that I want. NO PROBLEM.

don't know what the record is on cheapest truck so far in this thread, but I recently bought a stock '89 Bronco II for $100. Engine is fine, all it needed was a new piece of transmission cooler hose and a couple hours straightening out the front left fender so the tire could turn.

Finding deals like that and being able to do the work yourself, I think you could come in well under $2000 for a fairly capable rig.

I got an '84 Ranger for free, bought $20 worth of gas and snagged a battery from another truck. Fired right up. Traded a car that was worth around $200 for a brand new set of 33's, had wheels already. So I cut the fenders so they'd fit and had a good little rig until the motor lost a head gasket. I then removed the driveshaft, hubs, 33's, and a bunch of interior pieces and sold what was left for $250.

I figure I made at least the $250 plus I have a bunch of spare parts for my B2 now.

I think I have around $7,000 into my '86. The truck itself cost me $50. I have at least a grand into my SAS, bought my Skyjacker 6" lift for $2,000, at least $200 into my 8.8 swap, probably $1500 in misc parts, $250 worth of wheels, $1,000 into body panels, interior stuff, etc... that is a total of $6000, I can't think of what the rest was. Not tires because those have always been free or traded for. I have at least another $3-4000 that needs to go into it before I will be happy.

Pretty crazy how it adds up... I think I could have bought a very capable Jeep for the same amount and used a lot less junkyard parts.
