How can I tell whic fuel pump is not working?

Ok, I've changed out my plugs and wires on my 86 w/2.9 and my miss has disappeared, the only problem left is when I got to start it sometimes it has no fuel to kick off and run or when I'm starting to speed up quickly and get a little to aggresive on the gas it cuts out so I'm guessing one of the pumps is not keeping the injection fed???? How do I tell which it is I'm guessing there's a easy way I'm not yet aware of....Thanks!

Unplug the wiring at the main high pressure pump on the driver's side frame rail. Then turn the key to 'on' DON"T CRANK it over...and listen. You should hear the in tank pump run....both mine have enough power to pressurize the system on their own.

If that chekcs ok then plug the main pump back in.

Next unplug the wiring harness to the fuel tank in question and repeat the above test....this time the pump is louder because it's right under the cab, not submerged in the fuel tank.
