I am replacing a blown driver-side exhaust manifold gasket. While doing this, I thought that perhaps I should replace some of the vacuum hoses. I could really use some help identifying what I am looking at!

Figure 1: This hose connects to the intake manifold, right? What does this hose do?

Figure 2: This is the other end of the hose above. Clearly it (at least this segment) needs to be replaced. But where does it attach? And what is that odd part to the right?

Figure 3: Maybe it connects here? What is this box anyway?

Figure 4: What are these two hoses? The right one seems like a regular type hose, but the left one is like a very skinny hose.

Figure 5: The right hose above runs down and attaches to this square pipe (I hope that is correct because there is a slim chance I got the two hoses above switched around at some point in the past). It looks like someone put tape partially over the branch off this pipe. I have no idea if that is right or why they would do that or what that branch to nowhere actually does. Any thoughts?

Figure 6: The left of the two hoses above goes to the bottom right arrow juncture. I'm mystified by these two junctures and welcome any insight.

Finally, what do you think about the Haynes repair manual for the Ford Ranger? I tried locating the actual Ford repair manuals, but they are very rare and expensive. I was looking at this manual, but I don't know if it will explain things like the pictures above etc.

Thanks in advance!

Pictures 1-3, vacuum supply yo the charcoal canister purge valve doohickey thingamabob. Yes. It connects to that box, the charcoal canister. Purges gas vapors from the fuel tank or something like that.

Pictures 4and5, is a vacuum operated damper that brings warm air from around the exhaust manifold to help warm ip the engine faster in cold weather. I live in the south. Got rid of all that years ago. No regrets.

Last part, vacuum supply for heat and air conditioning controls. The big pill-shaped thing is a vacuum reservoir to hold vacuum steady during acceleration. This system operates the dampers to control air flow for defrost/feet/panel vents.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like I just need to fix 1-3. I also live in the south, so I'll ignore 4-5 and also the last one since I don't use heat or air.
