Horrible headlights

I got a 94 ranger and I’m figuring out why everybody always put light bars or roof rack lights or whatever you wanted but like any old truck has additional headlights because even compared to a newer style headlight setup non led they suck there isn’t no projection with them. I put in new bulbs and there better but not by much like in my opinion the brights on is what I want my normal headlights to be but anyway do I put a light bar on it? Or is somthing like adding auxiliary lights a better idea like driving lights from farm and fleet

I think I would work with the stock headlights a little more. I have found through the years adjustment can make a big difference in how they work.

I discovered by accident on one vehicle I have, the headlights were actually adjusted too high, making vision poor. They were shining out and up too far, not hitting anything directly. I discovered this by accident, driving on a trip in terrible fog. I could not hardly see anything, but when a car would pass me in the left lane, I could see fine when their lights were shining. Lowered them down and they worked better in all situations.

Also in my state we have inspections. All lighting has to have the DOT label on it, and no aux lighting can be above the stock headlights. If it is offroad lighting above the headlights, on road it has to be covered. I don't care what you do if you hook your lighting up to the high beam switch, but please be mindful of other drivers with extra lighting in low beam mode.

Another possibility is to run new wiring to your lights using your stock wiring to a relay to control the lights. Apparently that can really help.

I thought we had a tech article on that. But a quick look isn't turning it up. I could draw a diagram for it later.

Bronco Graveyard has HD headlight upgrade harnesses. They are cheaper than I can make one, so I’ve bought a couple. Put one of them in my Choptop and went from 9004 to 9007 bulbs, definitely an increase in light output.

Personally, the best bulbs I’ve run are the Sylvania SilverStar and Ultra bulbs. I’ve tried some LED bulbs with mixed results.

If you have round headlights I think it's Toyota has a deal on 2 Kioto glass bulbs and the relay harness to replace the old headlights and harness. This was awhile ago and the price then was about $18.00. I found the same sets up here in Canada for 50 caknucklehead dollars and bought 2 sets.

7" bulbs iirc.
