hood scoop intake induction?

i want to make a hood scoop in the hood of my truck and i want to hook my intake up to it. will this give me more power the faster i go because it will force more air in the engine the faster i go? i have a 1990 ranger 2.3L 4 cylinder 2wd
5 speed.

um last time i checked more air=more hp so i would say yes

do the math. any sane-sized scoop would need well over 100 MPH in order to give the engine any kind of "assist". unless you live near the autobahn, you arent getting any performance benifits out of ram air.

and scence its fresh air you might get a little lower rpm pull

Well, the new hayabusa bikes make 8 more horsepower at 60mph with their factory ram air than with just engine. Something like a shaker scoop would be neat. And yes, Ram Air allows cool air to be forced into the intake. Will it make 6psi and require a tune? Nope, but it will be good for something. It won't be amazing horsepower but it will do something. It will always pull cold air no matter what speed, but as you get upto highway speeds it will boost you a tad more.

i think the biggest thing will be a few more mpg

thats going to be more noticable than the power

if its power you want go get a stock 5.0 throtle body and adapter plate
more air will do no good if you cant get it all threw the tb

i think with a new tb and the ram air you will pick up a noticable amount of power

the STOCK intake is already a cold air intake. a hood scoop isnt going to somehow feed it air thats colder than the ambient air your engine is already breathing.

your comparing a 1300CC bike motor to a 2300CC truck engine, apples and oranges.

its been tried. it doesnt work.

its not about being right. its about facts.

the factory intake upstream of the TB is not a restriction. using a larger pipe will not increase performance, neither will a scoop. for that matter, the factory intake is located behind the passenger headlight, on the front of the vehicle. if any area of the vehicle were to experience any significant increase in pressure, it would be the front of the vehicle.

and why cant he run some pipe with a cone filter on it to look good

I've been toying with this idea for when I put the supercharger in on the 4.0L.
The 2 problems that I've run into are where to put the air filter, my new fuse box is where the old one is. And where can I get a hood scoop that doesn't like ass.
Does anyone have any pictures of these "been tried" ones?

Wicked, there is no "forced air" behind the headlight. Unless you removed the headlight. I am not comparing apples to oranges, I'm comparing what RAM AIR does to an engine vs. stock intake. The Hayabusa is ingesting cold air from the front of the bike. When 60mph winds are introduced, the dyno notes a gain of 8rwhp. Since all engines work on the same principals, its easy to assume that the ram air will have a similar effect.
