My neighbor gave me a Holley 2300 Keith Dorton series from his stock car to try on my ranger since im still using the stock feedback Carb that runs like crap and i have durasparked my ranger already.

My question is what do i do with my brake booster since this Holley doesn't have any vacuum Ports on it.

this carb is 350cfm.

Excuse me not the brake booster, that hooks onto the manifold, pcv valve line hooks to back of carb.

I was gonna say you mean PCV can you drill a port on the base of the holly carb slightly smaller than the nipple on the feedback carb and carefully press in the nipple it should twist out of the motorcraft carb. There is also a port on the back of the egr spacer pointing strait back at the firewall hiding under the brake booster hose just put a hose clamp and tighten the PCV hose to it. It`s a bit smaller but should still work just fine. there are a couple on the manifold tree that you can use also you may need to adapt the hose sizes.

Ok cool thanks. I'll be putting the carb on this weekend then and hopefully it makes the truck run better, right now it won't idle without my foot on the pedal and it sputters and chugs at idle. I believe i capped all the vacuum Ports that I'm not using. I capped all extras on manifold tree, and the one on the back of the egr spacer and i think there was a couple on the feedback carb i capped, am i missing anything else to cap?

get carb spacer felpro #60529 and make a gasket for between the carb and spacer. Lightly surface the base of the carb with 200grit on a piece of glass or flat metal surface in a figure eight pattern and just snug the carb down do not over tighten it. confirm the timing is at 10 degrees base and then hook it up to ported vacuum on the carb. Then adjust the idle air needles out for the highest rpm possible or the highest vacuum pressure. I allways wondered if there was a holly carb that would fit the 2.8. The spacer will keep the carb from getting too hot bolted right on the egr spacer. Have you capped the egr valve with a plate. I automatically get a new egr gasket before I mess with the egr.

Yeah i made a block off plate out of some scrap metal in my garage, but it could of warped, i put rtv under it but im going to make a block off plate at work if i remember to bring the egr valve to work so i can trace it.

Also my base gasket its from a carb kit i had from an old f250 i worked on. It doesn't leak from what i can tell, i sprayed carb cleaner around it while running and it didn't effect it, i also tried the vacuum line to the ear and i couldn't really find anything.

Put a new gasket for the egr block off plate RTV sucks!! I coundnt see a ported vacuum port for the distributor on the holly carb. You can just use manifold vac but make sure the timing is at 10 degrees BTDC plug in the advance and the dial in the idle air for the highest possible rpms. Allways adjust the idle air every time you adjust the timing for the highest vacuum pressure or highest rpms. Then adjust idle idle speed and allways use a new base gasket whenever you pull the carb.

Ok, i will report back this weekend.

Some good news, i got some new ignition parts in the mail today, when i did the duraspark conversion i ordered a coil from a pinto, well that coil uses a special connector to connect the wires to the leads on the coil. I just had it Jerry rigged around the leads but now with the new connector it idles by itself, no chugging and just sounds so much better, i will still be putting on the Holley this weekend but i don't know if i will like it since it doesn't have a choke.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Does that coil require a ballast resistor? Check the voltage at the coil when the engine is running coil pos to ground if above 9 volts you will burn up a coil thats not internally resisted. I have been running the stock TFI coil for years without a miss.

I will find out tomorrow, i don't know if it does or not, it didn't cross my mind. I got the part number from the duraspark conversion page in the tech library.

She's definitely still broke, if I'm coasting down a hill or come to a stop sign i have to keep my foot on the gas or it will die. if this Holley carb doesn't work out i will make a new metering block for the feedback carb, right now i made one out of wood and it leaks I'm sure. And I'll try adjusting the mixture screws again.

I had some time in the garage today, o tested my coil with my multi meter and i got readings jumping back and forth from 6.9 - 8.9 volts, might be my multi meter causing the jumping, it would stop at 8.9 for a couple seconds then go down to 6.9 then back up.

Also i admit i failed with my egr block off plate with rtv on it, i found it leaking so i put the valve back on and capped the vacuum port on it. Runs pretty decent now. I also took off my shotty metering block.

I set the Holley on the manifold and i need to buy some kind of fitting to connect my fuel line to the inlet on the carb, not sure what to get, i have a local oreillys in town, so i was thinking take it in and see of they have a filter that fits and then I'll get some fuel line and i should be good to go.
