HMMM Ranger knowledge quiz??

that just reports a post, we need a way to fish out the bad information that flys around here sometimes, which is why the quiz with section specific results would be helpfull

will is right.

i have sent alot of people here simply cause i have not had time to be online or help people when they are down.. tell them to search..

i forget its basically a new place these days. its come back to me hard...i try to explain one way and then its poo pooed:dunno:

i work on alot of different types of stuff from jeeps to s blazers. do alot of swaps, axles/motors trans ect.....even so, specifications and clearances i rely on books for. whether putting brakes on a 14 bolt or a d35...whatever...its all the same to me.

rangers to 97 are cake...post 97 they get dramatically more difficult to deal with and costly too.

heater core to blower motor controls, ac pumps ect are really easy and simple..its why i like these things...they are dumb and easy

why the fawk would we need a test?

how bout we race to see who can r&r a trans and rebuild it the fastest too?

or install a lift kit...

or install a d44 9 in combo?

how bout a d44/9in smallblock ford/chevy swap with ac all by themself the fastest...or/ rather swap a sploder powertrain to a gen one rbv in the least amount of time???

alone.

what would it prove??

finding vac leaks ect to help shoot down a pinging issue or rough idle ect is great...knowing when a valve is goobered from a coolant leak ect is a whole different story.

that shit is impossible for me to do effectivly online:dntknw:

how do you test for that....??

Man, I've been around here for a long time. Back when it was the older site. I remember AllanD, 4x4Junkie, MAKG, DaveR, WILL, and many others that I just can't think of right now. I'm talking 2003 or so. I've been a paid member (sorry Jim, soon I promise) and an unpaid member, but one thing remains the same at TRS......................people putting their experience together from their own trial and error of working on their RBV's and sharing and helping others who love their Rangers.

BOTTOM LINE FROM WHAT I'M HEARING HERE IS THIS:
I know I don't give advice on anything I have'nt personally done or have'nt "in the flesh" been there to see it done, and everyone who is enjoying this FABULOUS site of information should honor and respect others enough to not give advice unless they are 100% certain from experience that that's how it should be.

EXAMPLE:
Someone reads a thread on here regarding gearing and then is an absolute EXPERT on gearing now and decides he/she should tell everyone what gear ratio to run.

Now, I've done gearing in my Ranger and can only speculate on how it works in regards to my engine, tire, and driving habits. That's how people should be utilizing this site. Sorry guys, venting over.

exactly....

depends....(not undergarments)

it all just depends...if anything we need to really push on a pre form on questions....where you are located, type of use in general...goals near and long....type of vehicle in detail....

these small details greatly affect what i would suggest for alot of different issues.

gearing....if a guy is a weekend warrior i would tend to push 373/410 factory offering to stay... with selectables and a doubler with 31/33 in street tires at all times for the road and some knarly tires for the trail.

if a guy is committed to such a build first thing in my mind is a winch.....then start working on locker/s. then a doubler before a good lift/tire combo.

if its trailer type of rig...anything goes. i have owned alot of rbv's....and still drive the one we call the pig to this day....but its just another jeep now.

i hope to build one for sarah and emily. so my ttb days are far from over.:tease:

People are talking about evaluating peoples knowledge so they know who to take advise from....

It's always been my experience that if someone replies to a question with bad info, someone will usually jump in to correct them. If you want to know something and you've resulted to a forum, you really need to be patient and give your question a couple of days to get replies and not jump on the first answer you get.

yeah, something like that as a header on the register process jim...be patient as possible, and put in certain details of the location use and vehicle...or something like that...make it big and to the point...that way they understand filling out more stuff in the register process is worth the extra time.

I've never been much of a mechanic, that's why it's cool to look up stuff here. I've had to learn things the hard way, or present my problem to one of my buddies who is a mechanic. My experience lies in the autobody trade, as well as a few years stripping cars in a wrecking yard.

u know it seems to me that there are alot of users on here that "SAY" they know stuff like once in a while I'll give advice but if im wrong i hope someone corrects me so that the next time i don't give wrong advice. but no it really bugs me when u get someone flipping out because they think their rite when their not i dunno just my 2 cents

You should do that. I got a buddy who thinks he knows everything about Jeeps, well turns out i know more them him and i hate jeeps and never owned one. You also might want to break into categories like body, suspension, drive terrain, history, electrical. The reason i say that some people may know little about suspension, but but have lots of knowledge in the engine field. People may not get as pissed cause not all of there scores will be low.

Why don't (mods) just nominate forum members.Being around this forum long enough you can tell who knows their stuff and the ones who know jack.By having forum members nominate other members you can have a nifty little icon by your screen name and trust what info you have been given. While I really don't 'work" on my truck per say I do really appreciate the info that this website shares to its members. Just my 2c

That's what the "technical advisor" role is. It's been around for a long time.

how many technical advisors actually post on tech questions though??? the only one that i see post regularly is MAKG, everyone else i see once in a blue moon, whats the point of the tech support tag if the guys dont come on here often enough to any tech supporting????

this is why i thought the quiz would come in handy, becuase i know im on here alot more then most of the tech advisors and there isnt much ranger wise i know, admitadly wiring isnt my favorite part, and i may not be a engineer, but i know my shit on most stuff.

if the purpose of the quiz is to be the same as "rep power " symbol then you need to make it so that people can't click on their own icon to up their points. i found that out by accident trying to figure out what different symbols under our avitars were. just my 0.02
