high steer kit question

The arms hes talking about are here

I plan to run my steering the same way as you from pitman to passenger steer arm and drag link knuckle to knuckle. I would also like to keep my knuckles because they are there and theyre flat tops. Ill look at the brackets on ebay and probly make some to match so i can run the cheap chev calipers. road manners are gonna be pretty inportant on her cause i plan on driving her from mn to alaska eventually but probly not this year unless i find a gold mine so i can finish my 302 setup and sas and everthing else planned. Hey bad explorer where do you live? i might just buy backing plate from you if you got a pass side bracket for the f250 dual piston caliper. Adkins are you having your buddy machine your pass side knuckle or are you gonna send it somewhere?

Good road worthiness with the high steer setup you describe may be difficult to achieve. In order to eliminate bumpsteer, the drag link and track bar must be the same length, and on the same plane.

Running your drag link to your pass side knuckle makes it pretty long, and you may run into packaging constraints when trying to position your track bar. I took this into consideration when I was buying parts for my SAS, went with an inverted T setup, and it seems I may have to have the track bar a little shorter than the drag link still.

Again, it depends on your track bar positioning/bracketry. Maybe it will work for your application, I know it wouldn't have for mine.

yeah im gonna keep what i got. i talked to him the other day hes got all the tools needed to do it, he just wants me to get the arms and bring him everything knuckles, arms, etc. he shouldnt have any problems, hell he had a 350 in a samari for his daily driver. :icon_cheers: the dual piston calipers are pretty cheap i had o'reillys look them up for me i was actually surprised they are on o'reillys web site if u wanna check them out.

your lucky im gonna have to send mine to get machined but oh well. yeah those dual pistons arent bad for price (especially since i get a big discount at napa) but i think ill try the chevy calipers just for fun. after all i wouldnt want to make my life any easier

yeah it wouldnt be any fun if it was all easy.

where are u gonna send urs out to?

i emailed the guy mr. n recomends and he only does chevy knuckles because the demand is higher for them. he doesnt do ford knuckles because his machine isnt set up for them. just about any machine shop should be able to do it as long as they have the right tools.

have u started on the swap yet? if so i would like to see some pictures.

sorry I havent started yet cause im at college. I plan to start when I get my first paycheck this summer. Right now im just planing things out for a build cause I gots no money or wrenching time. It sucks though cause my axles missing the long side shaft so im gonna need a shaft set and plan a full rebuild aswell plus the aformensioned high steer and brakes which will probly total over a grand  but it should last for a while. Ill take plenty of pics when i start. How is yours going?
