Alright my Powermaster 200A alternator just went and I need a cheap replacement since I'm lacking in $$. I need something that can put out around 130A at least.

I did some searching but have yet to get a definite answer to my questions so I figured I'd ask you all.

I have a 2000 2.5L Ranger.

I was searching around and found these guys - RJM Injection Technologies
they have a sloo of different choices for alternators and mounts.

I know that my alternator is the side mount. They say the side mount fits the Explorer 5.0L but I'm not 100% certain if the explorer 5.0L mounts are the same as mine.

Also, I don't know if I have the 3G or 4G alt in my truck, so I don't know which harness to get or if the harnesses are interchangeable.

Any input would be much appreciated.

holy **** that was fast...

here's the reply from RJM:

You can use our side mount 3G with the same pulley from your old alternator.
The 4G wouldn't fit your vehicle.

I hope this thread helps out someone else that might be having a similar problem.
The RJM site looks EXCELLENT and all of their products seem to be really well priced. (including heat resistant split loom @ $.25/ft)
This is exactly what I needed: a good quality cheap alternative to another POS $$$ alternator from Advance Auto.

You don't have anyone around that rebuilds them? There is a local guy here that charges 35-45 depending on the unit and his work is flawless. I have a 140amp he built for mine from an F150 case. They used the same mount/pulley. He only charged me $85 and I didn't have a core for him.

If you don't need the truck for a couple days you could open it up and check to see if the brushes are shot. If they are you can new brushes off of rock auto shipped to your house for usually less than $10

Yea there's someone who can rebuild it... but it'll be around $100. I could do it myself... but it would cost me about that in parts... for that $$ I'd rather just get an all new one :D (it's $125 for a 160A from RJM)

How can I tell if the brushes are bad? What if it's the regulator/rectifier or something? I don't think I can use any one... I'm pretty sure it would have to be for the Powermaster alternator specifically :icon_confused:

but tbqh... I'm kind of glad to be getting this abomination off of my truck.
the thing is massive and puts way too much strain on my poor motor.

...nvm. I pulled my alt and the brushes are very obviously shot.

I e-mailed Powermaster about a set of replacements. I'm still thinking that I am going to go with the RJM alternator though.

Does anyone want a rebuilt 200A Powermaster?
