2004 ranger standard cab - If I push the the turn signal indicator forward for high beams, they don't work, flash to to pass works. Why?

Sure sounds like a multi function switch to me.

I had the same issue with one of my Fords some time ago. It was either my '93 Ranger or a '95 T'bird that I had. Everyone on forums told me it was the multifunction switch. It looked just like this thread. Several people said "Oh yeah, its your multifunction switch for sure!" I spent the high dollars for a Motorcraft unit from a stealership, replaced it and had the same issue. Turns out it was the relay. The high beams and "flash to pass" functions do not use the same relay. I would check the relay before throwing parts at it.

Thanks.

I also found this vid on replacement but only covers up to '03. Looks the same as '04 but who knows? Not as much work (he hopes).

I would assume it is in the relay box in the engine bay. Can't say for sure, never had a 98+ Ranger.

My 06 shows no relay(s)...

If there are relays... they would be part of the SJB.

So the indicator and high beams work... with flash to pass. That tells me wiring and fuses are good out to the high beams. Also tells me the SJB is also good. In fact wiring back to the multi function switch is good.

There is really only the multifunction switch left to be at fault.

It was a fuse. Pulled and replaced - all is good. Flash to pass worked, only high beams and indicator failed.

Thanks to all for your quick responses and eagerness to help.

Ok... i thought i had read the high bean indicator worked. Also the fact I was thinking flash to pass was cycling the high beams on. A closer look at the schematic... clearly shows flash time pass is a low beam function.

I'm sure I knew that... but I'm clearly to f-n old to remember much of anything.
