HID Options?

Are HIDs worth the investment?

  • Yes, but don't buy the Ebay ones. Buy a well known brand.

i hate it when people who dont know what they are talking about lead others astray.
i just bought these well made usa manufactured hids off ebay.http://www.ebay.com/itm/HID-9007-High-Low-Bi-Xenon-55W-Digital-Conversion-Kit-/120554437609?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1999%7CMake%3AFord%7CModel%3ARanger&hash=item1c119abbe9

these are 55w version so they are extemely bright and meant for only high beams and off road. there are also 75w that are purely racing and offroad use only but they are hard to find being the market for them is so small.

in color temp dont go higher than 6000k, i have a pair of 6000k and i wish i bought 5000k or 4300k, the lower the temp the more output. it is complete bull$$$$ that these can only be put in projectors, my offroad hids are in relfection housings and they are 180$ a pair. hell KC hid are reflected.... now think about it, why would KC sell subpar stuff.

for your truck you would need exactly whats in the link in either 35w or 55w, and at 4300k, it will give a oem look thats just brighter. i just installed a pair similar, but same manufacture as above on my 98 dodge ram. and they are amazing and blinding every one is bs. those that blind are using cheap bulbs that produce more off axes light than a lantern. rant over.

So what do you use for low beams?

Its not complete "bull$$$$" Its actually the law that HID bulbs and anything of the alike not specifically designed for a reflective housing can not be legally used on a public roadway unless in a projection housing.

Of course you can put any bulb in any housing but just know it is not always legal and for good reason because all these vehicle owners who are too cheap to buy projectors and just shove HID bulbs in halogen (reflective) housings blind the hell out of everyone because there is no cutoff point and absolutely no projection to put the light forward. The bulbs brightness is the same in every direction and that is what glares in the face of other drivers.

Just so you know Fog lights themselves for the same reason are illegal to use on the road factory or aftermarket unless there is fog present. A KC light is designed to reflect for off road purposes so you can see everything in every direction of the light housings focus. KC are not on road lights at all and have a great design for what they do off the road.

To the OP legally you need a projector to use any form of focus bulb on a public roadway. And when done legally HIDs barely offer anything over a halogen housing with a Sylvania silverstar bulb. Done illegaly yes they will light up far better than any halogen bulb design. 4000-5000 will give you the best projection for a roadway but you will still lose light above and out to the sides in a legal projector housing. youll have much better forward projection and gain a bit of distance but that's all youll gain over a halogen housing. An LED bulb will do much more than an HID.

Since yours are dual filament bulbs you can use either 35 or 55w. And your existing housings are design for 55/60w halogens so you'll be fine on any heat produced. Me i like 55w

I'm not going to argue, all I know is all the hids I've installed and properly aligned and adjusted haven't blinded me when I've seen the people I've installed them for on the highway... It all comes down to buy good kits get good results. Buy the cheap 20-30$ kits get a crappy ballast and bulb which don't always ignite and lead to piss poor performance "PPP"

I've never seen one person or heard of any person getting a ticket for using fog lights with no fog.

The ones that blind me, I can't stand. However, I'm assuming those people are just idiots.

I just bought some 6k 55 watt 9007 HIDs off hidnation.com, and i bought new stock halogen headlights which are just holes inside the casing nothing to cover the light inside. There spotted because there not proper hid projectors but there not blinding. Im now looking for projectors.

Yeah ill have to take some, then figure out how to post them i used to use photobucket but i don't have one anymore. Ill take some soon

Honestly, you really dont ned a projector lense for hids, I bought both my HIDs and housing from eBay. My housings are just a regular swap and i got 35w 5k HID kit. Please note there are 2 types of ballasts. One thats A/C and D/C. A/C is overall better, no flicker, steadier current. Theres really no need to go 55w unless you're just asking to get pulled over. Mine light up the signs, lines on the road and everything just fine. Even lights up the local PD and Sheriffs signs on their cars. My housings from eBay came with a little "city light" thats a 194 light bulb on the below the hid itself. Replaced that with a 194 sylvania HID and hooked that up to a wire that wasnt in use that turns on with the ignition and turns off 10 seconds after the ignition is off. So, daytime running lights, and its bright enough just with the 194 i can cruise in town at night and not get pulled over for "no headlights." Been 6 months since I've had them, no problems with melting, getting pulled over and no ones flashed their brights at me for having to bright of headlights.

These are the Sylvania 194 LEDs that are my daytime runners

And here are the the lights/lense itself.

And HID reverse lights for kicks and giggles

Nice setup. And i agree with you all the way. I just like the 55w for dual filament bulb hid conversion.

Thank you, and yeah ha when mine decide to take a crap, Ill probably just order a 55w A/C BiXenon kit. What color temp are yours? 6k?

On my first sets, when i was still in hs i ordered 6k and they have ran ever since, but recently ive become more partial to the 3k for fogs and 4300k or 5000k for the headlights

How do you like the 55w 6ks? Is there any blue in them at all? I know with 55w you kinda have to by a color temp up to get what you want. Like 6k=5k and so on

HIDs purchased from HIDnation.com $65 with shipping 55w 9007 6k bulbs Hi/low blueish tint, aimed by myself span 100 feet, no glare or blindness for other drivers. LED blinker bulbs shine yellow purchased from superbrightleds.com. Ill try and get some more pictures up of the span in front of the vehicle

I would say on average the higher wattage would take 500k off. So i would guess 5500k. Ill get side by side pics of the 35w low beams and 55w high beams on my 92 chevy.

Looks nice. Im about to go all led on my truck.
