Ok Im not brand new here, but this site has helped me tremendously in chosing a Ranger.
I had planned on getting an 09' but unfortunately I had to search for an 08' because my Grand Am cracked a cylinder a few weeks ago.
I had nothing but problems with the car from the second year out.(bought it new in 2000) There was even a lawsuit which was settled on the car, due to the "required" dex cool coolant eating the gaskets on the V6's. Unfortunatly my gasket blew in the 8th year, the settlement only covered blown gaskets at the 7 year or earlier mark.
Than a month later the cylinder cracked at which point I gave up on the car.
Took good care of the car and was told not much I could have done about it.
So I had to get a Ranger without ordering one, but get one that was in stock somewhere.(very hard to find right now, especially the duratech 4cyl.) I had planned on a single cab xl. But changed my mind and got an extened cab xlt. Gas mileage was important so I wanted a duratech.
My dealer found one for me but I had to settle for Redfire. I was a little worried because I hadnt seen the color except only online and it wasnt the most accurate representation. I really wanted either black or blue.(both hard to find) On my way to the dealer I was worried I wasnt going to like it but beholden to it now. (They had to drive it a hundred miles to get it to me.)Dealer took me to go see it. Walked thru the dealer ship, turned a corner and I immediately loved the color.
Much more so than the blue or even black.

Its not the fanciest ranger around.(which doesnt really matter because of all the great modifications that can be done) But its great on gas and fun to drive.(though a bit noisy when im idling at a light. This is normal right?)
As for mods, no major ones planned as of yet. Most likely a duraline, some good floor mats and a seat cover. Larger tires. Not sure what i can fit on it without a lift. I will probably get some snow tires in the winter.(I live in Michigan) I know its going to be a challenge to drive in the winter but i have a few friends at work that drive the 4x2 in the winter and they have no problems. Great truck so far.
