Here it goes.....

I had posted these before when someone asked about the motor mounts for the coil spring suspension. These are the ones most used. How's that retirement thing working out for you? I still havn't time to get to my projects, just trying to catch up on all the neglected house things.

Funny you should ask about retirement... I now have time and resources to do all the things I wanted to do when I was 20, just can't remember why I ever wanted to do them! Thanks for the prints on the mounts. I will need to find someone local to do these for me. Any idea when these generally cost to have made?

I'm sure the price will vary from area but I paid $140 but they went overboard on the welding. Sure I could get them done for $100.

Think I found a place today that will do the mounts. Got information back on my engine and all is good news. After 130k miles, the crank was pretty much at standard and will only require polishing. Cylinders are standard also, but have some wear. Will do a .030 over and new pistons-(pistons looked a bit ratty from sitting for a long time I think) Cam looks like new so will not replace at this time. Decided to buy another complete harness for a 2000 explorer which will include the battery harness which I currently do not have. This will eliminate a little bit of stress I am feeling over the wiring issue that was in front of me.

The one thiing no one has mentioned is what headers. Unlike the early swaps, really kind of limited to the stock Explorer manifolds (tube type, throw away), the cast iron ones, the long disconuinued FRPP ones or the great, expensive Torque Monster headers. Sounds like you are on the right path, motor checked out good, new wiring. Where you located at anyway? Always helpful to put at least a general location, found several members local that have been a great help.

I am located in Marietta Ga. just north of Atlanta. I will change my profule to reflect this. With drawings in hand I spoke with a local machine shop. Told them the general range of what people were paying for the plates and they said they could not touch it for that. Looks like most of what they do is on CNC machines. How about the mounts that are on the James Duff site? Looks like they have the plates available for about $90 or so, then would still need to be the 4.0 mounts. mmmmm

That's the big problem with the '98' and newer Ranger, they are way different and the early swap parts don't work. Sure someone on here has connections to a good fab shop and welding in your area. I know someone in Atlanta area that might have some contacts. I remember someone at RPS was going to do them for like $40 but not of the right thickness. I can check with the place that did my set and see if they can do a couple of sets for $100.
Ever got some questions about anything, my E-Mail is in my info.

Continue to clean parts and disasembly of upper and lower intake manifold. Removed the injector rail and injectores and decided to send them off to be rebuilt by Mr. Injector. After removal of the injectors saw some corrosian on the base and decided the cleanup was beyond my paygrade. Also received new wiring harness that includes the battery harness which I did not have before. I am beginning to feel this this bitch is going to nichol/dime me to death.....

Found what I believe to be a nicely priced T5 through Craigslist. Armed with 4 pages of codes, I will check it out early tomorrow on my way out of town. Next 10 days will be at Sturgis so wont be looking at the computor much. Hope the tranny is what he says it is......

Back from Sturgis and dead tired with the 1600 mile return trip behind me.... brought home the T5 with a 169 code that puts this transmission at a 1989 model and right in the range I was looking for. Looks to be in good shape and actually got a warranty with it. Also came home to a box full of rebuilt injectors from Mr. Injector. He does a really nice job of documenting before and after flow rates and has a very quick turn around time. Back to cleaning parts on Monday.

Craigslist is awesome! Just ran down the correct bellhousing, flywheel, clutch and pressure plate that I need to move ahead. Project went stale for someone else, ended with a pretty good bargain. Injectors not installed in the manifold with fuel rail on top. Most parts cleaned and painted and in good shape. Checked with the engine guy and the short block should be ready at the end of the week. Truck should go to the body and paint man at the end od next week if all goes well with him. Making progress and having fun again. Will try to add some pictures next post to make this more interesting.

Progress in the right direction is always good! How was Sturgis? Remember reading a couple of years ago about some of the accidents. One of the most out of the blue was a biker getting killed by a porta potty. Was following too close to a truck and one was not tied down enough. Beautiful country out there. Picture of you swap and parts always enjoyed!

Might be too late, but I wouldn't punch it out anymore than needed to clean up the bores. That way when you have to do it again, you are not searching for a new block.

good point on the bore. I will check tomorrow with the machinist if not too late.
